How important is it to use cloth safe detergent? I just ordered 40 Alva baby diapers, and I've read that you can use either regular or cloth safe detergent. I also read that cloth safe detergents don't get the diapers as clean.

You can use anything that works for you.  A lot of people use Tide successfully (myself included) and that is not considered cloth safe.  The worst that can happen is you have to strip your diapers and change detergents.

It's important if you don't want to have issues. Although powdered Tide works for some
