WWYD - Late pregnancy travel

Ladies - long time, no post.  I'm friends with most of you on FB, so you already know, but I'm due with #3 somewhere around 12/6 - 12/10.  DH is doing an Ironman in Panama City on Nov. 2, when I'll be 35 weeks.  My OB is ok with me going as long as I get enough rest, etc.  So we had planned to go down on the 1st, and return on the 5th.  We're staying in Rosemary Beach in the house we always stay in during the summer, so I was pretty excited about a last beach trip before the baby.  

Now we find out he has to check in on Halloween.  WWYD?  I hate to make the boys miss their Halloween parties at school and trick or treating so I was planning on driving down with them on the 1st, and DH would ride down early with a friend of his who is doing the race, or with my parents, who are also going early.  Everyone thinks I'm out of my mind - opinions?  The boys are just 4 and 6, so Halloween is a big deal to them....but I also don't want to go into labor on the backroads of Alabama.  I will be so glad when this race is over!!

If I were you, I would probably do what you plan, and drive down after Halloween. As long as you don't feel too terrible. DD LOVES Halloween, and I would hate for her to miss it. It's not that long of a drive.

You can make a game time decision too depending on how you feel. There are plenty of Halloween activities leading up to Halloween that your boys can participate in, so if you decide to ride down with your husband, they won't totally be missing out. I know we have at least 2 Halloween activities planned to dress up before Halloween.

What about going down early enough so the boys can T-or-T at the beach?  My girls would love that!

Chances are you'd be fine driving down on the 1st but on the off chance you had any issues it would really suck to be by yourself with both boys.  I'm a worry wart about stuff like that though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt

The PPs have great ideas.  But - most races have options for people who can't check in at the scheduled time.  Sometimes it's not on the site, or the website will say you can't check in late, but if you contact them with the circumstances they do provide other options.

I like the idea if T&T at the beach! I wouldn't drive that far alone at that stage.

Is there a reason you think you might go into labor a month early?  I think staying home so your boys can T or T with friends, or going early to do it at the beach would both be good options.  I don't know what the costume plans are, though, so that could factor in.  Just more to pack if you go down early.

My vote is do your original plan.  Not that its ideal but they invented 911 for a reason.  If you are traveling on a pretty well used beach route then I would think emergency personnel could reach you easily should the worst happen.  Babies come when they come and I would enjoy my time until that happens.  Now if something risky to your health or the baby comes up between now and then of course scrap all plans to leave anyway.

I'd try to T or T in FLA. After one perfect pregnancy I went into pre-term labor at 30w and have been on hospital bed rest since- coincidentally this was 3 days before a week long Hilton Head trip. I'm so thankful that I am in Atlanta instead of out of town. That said- Ironman is a huge deal, both of us are IM finishers, and you obviously want DH to stay as stress free as possible. I know if it was me, driving down alone would stress my DH out a lot when it could possibly be avoided if all of you traveled together.
