Puffy eyes?

I know puffy eyes are common in newborns due to the physical trauma of birth, but  I have read that the puffiness generally goes down within a few days.  My son is 3 weeks old and still has puffy bags under his eyes.  There is no redness or discharge in his eyes.  Does anyone else's LO have puffy eyes still?  I'm not sure if that's still normal or if I need to take him to the pediatrician to get checked out.  I plan to call tomorrow to ask, but just wanted to see if anyone else has experience with this.

Re: Puffy eyes?

  • It's normal! It's probably not swelling at this point, but just the normal fullness of his face. His face will grow and he will thin out and then he'll fatten back up again. This will be a common thing with growth spurts.

*Unless it seems severe and he's not able to open his eyes properly. Then I would have him checked out*

  • Can he not open his eyes? I'm assuming he saw the doctor at one and two weeks old, they would have noticed if something was up....unless its new?

    call if you're worried.
