We are thinking of naming our son James Cash if its a boy but calling him by his middle name Cash. My husband's name is James and he is a big Johnny Cash fan. We really like it but were getting mixed opinions. What do you think?
I actually really like it, I know a lot of people don't but it's kind of my guilty pleasure name. I can totally imagine calling out the name Cash. Love it.
Would love Cassius James NN Cash, not a fan of Cash as a stand alone, but if it's in the MN spot I guess it's not like he would have to use it unless he liked it.
I wouldn't assume Johnny Cash if I saw this name. I'd assume it was your version of a virtue name, which...yeah. It's not terrible in in the mn spot, but i't's kind of low-classy, imo.
Love it! But maybe because I have a brother who is Charles Cash but goes by Cash. He's 25 but has gone by Cash since birth... It was our parents' intention when giving him that name. His father is also Charles, so a similar situation as yours.
He has gotten compliments on his name his whole life. Most people say it's "cool". And, yes, some of his friends call him "Cash Money"... Started in high school... Doesn't bother him, kind of a funny/cool nickname.
I went to school with a super hot guy named Cash, but it was a nn for Cashion or some other weird full name that was a family name for him.
My verdict is as a nn, it's great. As a full name, I'm not such a fan. I guess the redeeming fact here is that it's his middle name technically, so he can use James C Adams on his resumes and business cards as an adult. I vote yes.
Sorry but I really dislike Cash- first of all I love Johnny Cashs music but aside from his musical talents he was definitely not a role model I would want to name my kid after. Secondly I think it just sounds really pretentious like Mercedes or Princess. I love James to pieces though!

Our youngest son's mn is Cash, and Johnny Cash was our inspiration! DH is a musician and Johnny Cash has always been a huge musical inspiration for him, plus we are both huge fans of his music. We love our son's mn and that's all the matters to us
I'm torn, I see both sides of this. My initial reaction is to like it, but then I think of some of the issues with it. However, I'm in the camp that almost anything goes as a MN, he still has the option of using James in professional settings, but has a sort of cool NN, so in the end, I say go for it.

I have to say, when someone says something about the name Cash, All I can think of is Cash Money. The Hotboys-LMAO
I realize that admitting I know who they all are probably shows exactly when I was in High School.
