I've always enjoyed reading birth stories, so wanted to share mine.
Now that we are home and settled, and Maggie is sleeping, I thought I'd take a minute (or 2 or 3)! to write my birth story.
On Friday, October 4, I had my bi-weekly BPP & NST due to my amniotic fluid being low. I was 38 weeks 4 days. Maggie did very well on both but my fluid level had dropped below 5. I was told when & if this happened, I would be admitted. I was told to come back to the hospital at 11:00 pm for the induction process. We went home and finished up last minute things we needed to do and finished packing our bags. I couldn't believe that the next time I walked through our door, we would be bringing our sweet baby home. We decided to go out for a nice dinner first. We got to the hospital about 10:30 and they admitted me then. I was 3 cm dilated and 100% effaced so we didn't need any cervix ripening. I was started on pitocin right away. I was told to try and get some sleep. Surprisingly enough, I did doze off and on till around 2:00 when contractions started fast and furious. By 4:00 they were so agonizing. The checked me and I was at 6 cm. It was at this point I decided to ask for the epi. Luckily the anesthesiologist was just finishing up with another patient a couple of doors down so I didn't have to wait long. She was amazing. My DH was so good in helping me breath through contractions and was amazing during the epidural. it was not bad at all. It took about 20 minutes for it to work. I could feel my abdomen tightening up, but the pain was gone. I had a pump that I could use if it started to wear off. By now it was around 5:30 am and I was exhausted. I somehow managed to fall asleep till the shift change when there was a lot of activity going on. At 7:30 the nurse checked me and I was at 8cm. I was starting to feel the contractions a lot more but I didn't want to use the pump because I wanted to be able to feel something while pushing. At 8:15 I had to use the pump because the pain was really coming back. Around 8:45 I all of a sudden felt an incredible amount of pressure and the urge to push. My DH called the nurse and she came in and checked me and I was complete. I couldn't believe it was time to push Maggie out! Luckily my doctor was on call for the weekend so she delivered me. I pushed for about half an hour and out she came, all 8lbs 6 ounces and 20.5 inches long! I was terrified of the induction because of all the horror stories I had heard/read about. Thankfully my induction could not have gone smoother.
All the tears and heartache over the past several years were all worth it to look upon her precious face and know that she is ours....
