XP from Chicago board: baby in a loft

Hi-
The Chicago board isn't very active so I'm seeking advice from other urban cities.
Currently we rent a loft apt and by loft I mean it's one floor, but the bedroom walls do not go up to the ceiling and the 2nd room does not have a door. We were looking to move, but we love our place. Our families say we can stay and the baby will get used to whatever noise it's around.
Anyone have experience with a baby in a loft apt? Is staying realistic? Thanks!
