A word of caution - take care of your teeth!!

Ladies, during my first pregnancy I had awful heartburn which changed the acidity of my saliva. Even though I kept up my normal dental hygiene, I got 9(!) cavities from the pregnancy. Apparently it can happen to anyone but is more common if you have had a lot of vomiting and/or heartburn. The joys of growing a baby :)

  • I also heard it's hard to find a dentist who will do a root canal, etc.

Can you imagine needing a root canal (like, in pain needing) and not being able to get one!? OUCH.

  • @kriztyn try leaning your head backwards. Believe it or not, it usually helps me.

  • I'll have to try leaving my head back, too.  I end up gagging/dry heaving almost every night when I brush my teeth. I also found out the day of my bfp that I have a few cavitites that need filled.  But I'm waiting till after the nausea is gone, too scared I'll puke on them!

  • During my last pregnancy, I made it a point to have extra calcium intake.  Then, the very week I had my baby, one of my molars chipped nearly in half, and I had to get to the dentist immediately after the hospital!  My dentist confirmed that the likely cause was the calcium depletion- despite all that I did.

  • I just found out that my dental insurance covers an extra appointment for pregnant women.  I thought that was pretty neat.

I used to also! I switched to kids bubblegum flavored and was fine afterwards. Might want to give it a try?
