prefolds too big AND too small

Hi! Newbie here...to parenthood and cloth diapering. I've been using prefolds and covers with my 2.5 week old, 9.5lb baby and feel like I am just winging it-- not really doing it "right," haha. If I just do a trifold and fold it over, it is soooo bulky, sometimes to where I can't even close the cover well. If I do a jelly roll or twist, it seems too small-- the back ends barely meet the front part of the diaper when I go to snappi it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
