1st Trimester

Low HCG

I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow. Hcg is 39.5. Progesterone is 55.27. Really great progesterone. My doctor's nurse called with the results & was really happy with the numbers but I'm a mess. Hcg is too low. I'm guessing it'll be over by next week. I've been down this road 5 times. Plus, I have had period cramps since Sunday and that's making it worse.

Re: Low HCG

  • Hi there - I think I posted a response on the 2IF board. You can't really look at a beta in isolation - you need to compare it to a 2nd to measure doubling time. My first was only 45, but the second test went up to 301 and then the third up to 1900. I had cramps, too, and figured I was out of the game. Fingers crossed this is it for you!

  • Everything PP said - one beta can't tell you much.  You need to see if it doubles.  My betas are in my siggy - at almost the same time my first beta was 49...I had cramping, no m/s and no other signs of pregnancy at all (i.e. sore boobs, tiredness, etc).  The nurse instructed me to be "cautiously optimistic".  And now, here I am - 9 days away from delivering twins.

Keep the hope/faith up and wait for your next beta, you just never know.

  • I don't know much about betas, but I've had TONS of cramping with this pregnancy and everything seems to be fine. Pretty sure that cramping is just the uterus stretching and growing. I know it must be hard to think positive, but try not to torture yourself because you've got enough on your plate already. Hugs and good luck!

DD #3 due May 17, 2014!!! Low lying placenta and DD measuring 1 week ahead at big u/s

  • I agree with PPs that you can't look at just one beta. My first was 54.5 but my second was 209 (38 hrs later).  I too have tons of cramps but my RE isn't worried since there is no spotting or bleeding.  Try not to stress, I know it is hard not to.

  • My first beta was 28! The next one two days later was 149.
  • Hey just wanted to tell you my first beta was also VERY low, 37! And I was the same 4 weeks, and I had cramping too.
My son is now 13 months old! Dont give up hope just stay positive and and if bad news comes deal with it then....
    Good Luck!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

    Baby Dust To All!!!

  • My first beta was low too...45. 5 days later it was 656. The most important thing is that it's rising appropriately.

    Best wishes to you!
