thigh high support hose?

Hello -
I'm only 23 weeks, so I will not be officially joining you ladies for a few more weeks. I'm getting varicose veins already (yikes!) and wonder if anyone here can recommend good thigh high support hose.  Most of these unsightly veins are in  my upper thighs, but I have a few on my right calf too.
Thanks!

Re: thigh high support hose?

  • Talk to your ob first, you don't want to use them unnecessarily. They are all terrible in my opinion, they are painful and itchy not to mention hot! I had to wear them for severe swelling and high bp, I went to the pharmacy and got a few different kinds.

Your insurance may cover them as well so that's another reason to talk to your ob. Some varicose veins are not a concern and they go away after delivery, my support hose didn't even help with those. So again, ask ob before using them.

  • I've been wearing these for the last few months: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A33GJY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They are not thigh highs, but the company makes those as well. I don't like the part that goes over the belly, so the thigh highs would be nice.

I started wearing them because I had a vein that was starting to pop out and I was worried it would turn into a varicose vein. I talked to my OB and he wasn't sure it would stop it, but it would make it more comfortable. It has made the vein less noticeable, so I think it is working.

Now, they are not comfortable. Not painful, but they just kind of suck and they are super hot. It also makes it so I can't wear dresses or shorts because they do not look like normal nylons. They are also horrible to get on, it is a struggle every morning. I still wear them because I will do anything possible to avoid vericose veins, but I wanted to give you fair warning.

  • I started getting varicose veins at 10 weeks, which is really early, but it happened anyway. My midwife recommended getting thigh high support stockings and they work great! You don't necessarily need the crazy intense prescription expensive ones. I just ended up going to a medical supply store and asking the gal working there for a little help, since there were alot of choices. I ended up with a medium/moderate strength (how tight it squeezes) pair for about $35. Talk with your OB on what s/he thinks would be best for you and then go to your nearest medical supply store. I hope this helps! GL
