So DH is swearing in for the Army tomorrow/today/in the morning (Oct 1st). With the government shutdown I wonder if he will even swear in now. I heard something about it not affecting the military but not real sure how factual that is
I heard on the news that the military still will report to work but they won't be collecting a paycheck during the shutdown.... Yet these politicians still get to collect their paychecks. Pretty messed up.
Yeah well no surprise there, lets delay the military paychecks because God knows those rich politicians are struggling up there on their high horses
They passed a bill that will pay the military, civilians working directly for the military, and contractors during the shut down. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that recruiting would continue as normal, but that was a few days ago, and I can't remember where I read it. I would call first thing in the morning and/or show up as planned.
He's spend the night down there at the hotel so he's already where he needs to be, I'm just hoping it won't be a wasted trip and we can finally get a date for boot camp.
I wonder how much faster congress would learn to compromise and do their jobs if it were their salaries on the line and not a million other federal employees and federal contractors? It really irks me that they will continue to collect their paychecks while the rest of us give up ours.
Dh is a navy recruiter and has said that their orders are to proceed as normal. All military pay will still be in effect and on the normal pay schedule.

Nice to know, I didn't even think about the government shutdown until I realized it was happening tonight. Thank god it won't be a wasted trip.
I know as others have said all military stuff will still be business as usual (DH still has drill this weekend but now no work today for his day job- Army civ) but there are also of civs who work in MEPS and unless they're contractors (which I am assuming they're not) I would assume they're considered non essential and would be furloughed so tough call. Maybe anyone who works in/has a DH in military recruiting can speak more to this.
DH is a civilian working for DOD and unless something changes today that he didn't know about, he continues working. I also read that military will go on and get paid like normal. Apparently Obama signed a bill that says military would still get paid if something like this happened. Things that are considered non-essential like museums and parks will be shut down. DH had already been furloughed once this year and it sucks, with LO on the way, I really hope this doesn't happen again, to anyone.
There are plenty of jobs that are considered non essential, like mine, that aren't related toparks, etc., that will be furloughed today. I am a buyer for the government, meaning I put on contract all the essentials for the military....And yet I'm furloughed. Uhh, so frustrating. It's the second time this year we've been furloughed!
Both my dad and stepmom are retired Navy working for the Marine Corp now. I just got off the phone with dad they have to go in for a little bit this morning but then are done till they get called back to work. No pay for them.
Dad was funny though "Well I'm gonna get some yard work done today then help a family move, you could ease the blow with a new grandbaby if you want."
National Guard and Reserves are different and most are being furloughed without pay. They make up half the military and are considered part time. Friends already have their notices and my DH is handing them out at his work.

SO is national guard, so I'm hoping that means no drill this weekend. Good thing for me because I'm due Monday.
I've been wondering if I will have drill or not this weekend. Luckily the dr is excusing me from it anyways. I just hate how the governments decisions affect us people who don't have a say on these issues. >:P
Re: Interesting Thought about Government Shutdown
We haven't heard anything from our command, so I would assume its normal days as usual.
