Mega blocks/Legos, art supplies (crayola has awesome markers that only work on certain paper), dress up outfit, play jewelry, DS really started to get into cars/trains/dump trucks at this point, I don't know what else.
Target carries a little purse set that my daughter LOVES. It's purple with a pink bow. I've recommended it a few times for people needing a gift and it has been a hit.
Anything make-believe/play pretend will probably work.
Dress up / imaginary play has become huge for DS1 over the last year or two. This time of year is good if you can find any cheap costumes, and I know my son uses his dress up clothes frequently. I imagine a little girl would be even more into it.
Otherwise, agreed on crafty stuff and music stuff. All of those types of things are still being used at 3 1/2 in our house.
My DD turned 2 in July and her big thing that she loves is mermaids for the bathtub. She's obsessed! She carries them in there like they are her babies, washes their hair, everything.
Lol, that is what we got James for his second birthday. The little mini indoor ones but that is kind of expensive to get for not your own kid.
Something kind of crafty that you can help make: buy a dozen canvas boards and some paint, tape something themey on the canvas for each month. She paints the canvas and then takes off the tape when dry to reveal the theme. I have done one that says "Santa" and one with a bunny head. James loves doing them. I plan to do a pumpkin face this month with orange/yellow/black paint. Leaves next month with red, yellow, green, orange paint.
How about The Little Mermaid DVD? It comes out tomorrow. Or I saw a cool Ariel bathtub toy. We are totally going to get the DVD tomorrow. Ethan loves princesses
