Playroom/laundry room

Is having the playroom in the same room as the washer dryer a huge safety issue? Can it be overcome with basic child proofing? We are building a new house and the laundry room is huge/would make a great playroom.

Do the doors lock? And hide detergent.

You can buy locks for the washer and dryer and ditto making sure all the laundry supplies are high and locked.
