Experiences with oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid)?

Yesterday at my ultrasound I was diagnosed with oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid). This has been an ongoing topic - also that jelly bean is on the small side (as was my first child who is perfectly healthy) - and yesterday it was determined that I'm now officially in the range of oligohydramnios. I drink a lot every day and will be pushing myself to drink even more.

Anyone else out there either with this or a precious pregnancy that could share their experience?

Thank you!

  • I know a few girls did..I think one just delivered her baby a couple days ago..try searching low amniotic fluid I bet the post will show up!
  • I had to be induced with my DS due to low fluid. I assume they are monitoring it daily, as they did with me. Be prepared to have baby at any time. I got comfortable with the checks always coming out low, but in the "no need to induce yet" range and was surprised when they said go home and get your DH and bag, you are having this baby today. Of course, I was already overdue, so it was no big deal for us at that point. As long as baby is healthy and they are keeping an eye on the level, don't worry too much about it. They will induce you when/if they need to!

  • Thank you ladies! Its so good to read that others have dealt with this and healthy babies have been the result!

jkuns7ty : they aren't checking every day - I have another appointment on Wednesday with a specialist to have some more detailed conversations as well as a deeper check. My due date is October 10 and for selfish reasons I'd really like if she chose to come - and got to chose to come - after October 7.

Off to search the boards and drink more water ;)

  • @ntrick If they aren't monitoring you daily, your levels are likely not too bad. As you get closer to your due date, I bet they will start monitoring it more closely. Good luck! And as PP said, don't even bother googling. Just drink as much as you can stand and listen to your docs! I was monitored daily for 9 days after my due date before they decided they couldn't wait for baby to come on his own anymore, so you might make it to the 7th just fine.

  • So grateful for your sharing and encouragement! Big words are scary ;) especially after the few scares I've had in this pregnancy (infections, bleeding, heart issues, etc)
