Baby Clothing Question

So for my shower in DHs hometown I mentioned about getting all 0/3 or 3 month clothing for this LO.  I was just wondering, before I really worry about trying to return or exchange things (b/c to be honest, I lack the energy and motivation to do much of that) on average how many articles of clothing of this size would you say is going to be too much?  Once I started thinking about it I realized that maybe what I have isn't too much.  I know all babies grow at different rates and some may stay in the smaller sizes longer but just trying to get a general idea of if I really have too much of one size or not.

My other random question has to do with sizes.  I know there is the 0/3, 3/6, 3 and 6 but I was sort of wondering what is the difference really?  I mean is a 3m the same as 0/3 and a 6m the same as 3/6m?  Just curious, they're all so little I feel like I can't really tell a difference holding them up to each other!  I know these are random questions but stuff I'm starting to think about as his arrival gets closer and I work on finishing organizing the nursery!  Thanks ladies!!

Re: Baby Clothing Question

  • From what I have noticed, the number that the clothing says doesn't necessarily represent it's actual size. I got a lot of 'newborn' clothes that are teeny and some that are larger. Same with 3m, 3-6m, etc. FTM here, but in my personal opinion, it's pretty hard for an infant to have too many items of clothing. They will be changed a couple times a day due to accident, spit up, and what not. I have been worried lately that I don't have enough. Also, the variation in sizes is most likely due to the fact that every baby is different and will wear different sizes at different ages.

  • I was too lazy to return anything, so I kept it all.

Initially, I had the same question about sizing, but once I washed everything and hung it all up, I realized what's on the tag is irrelevant. Some 0-3 mos. is the same as a 3 mos., and some 3 mos. are the same as the 3-6 mos., and so on. (For example, Gerber brand stuff seems to shrink big time once it's washed, so I don't even regard the size tag.)

Hanging it all up, even if it doesn't stay that way (again, because I'm laaazy) really gave me a good glimpse into what I had on hand. And then I bought stuff to fill in the gaps.

  • So baby sizes then are just like our clothes, it doesn't matter what it says the size is, it's all different according to who makes it!! Lol, somehow I should have figured that much! :)

  • Different brands run differently. Gerber tends to run small. How much you need depends on how often you want to do laundry.
