Baby Names

Milena/ Melina

Which spelling do you like better? Both are traditional when I looked up online. We're going with the nickname Millie.

Re: Milena/ Melina

  • These are two different names according to behind the name.
Out of the two I like Milena- however I wouldn't use Millie (that's just me though) I see/hear Millie as a NN for Milldred/Millicent and such.

  • I pronounce these differently. Milena = /mih-LAY-nuh/ Melina = /mih-LEE-nuh/ I'd pick the one that best reflects the pronunciation you want.

  • All I see is millennia. I don't like either. If I had to choose one I'd use Melina.

  • They both kind of sound the same as melena, which means bloody stools. So whichever spelling you prefer, I guess.

  • LOVE Melina, spelled that way. I think its gorgeous. I am not a fan of the name Millie, at all but I know you didn't ask that...I just had to throw in my unwanted opinion on it.

This. Although for the record, I think Milena is prettier.

  • My sister is Milena so I vote for it. Our mother tongue is French and they're completely different names, the pronunciation isn't even close. @mj.reilly, @jorkz821 funny you should say this just a few months back my sister was telling me how her entire life no one has ever made fun of her name until she started vet school and they learned about melena. All of a sudden everyone started calling her that, and these are adults! I doubt kids would know the term melena so the potential of getting teased over it is pretty small, at least until she becomes a health professional!
