**i think i put this on the wrong board!! sorry** will move it

Hi all,

so I had my first RE appointment this morning to discuss how to approach us TTC.  We are starting this next cycle and with a PCOS diagnosis i wanted to start the process right.  The doc seemed great.  He ordered blood work and did an US.  Basically as it seems like i ovulate and we haven't TTC yet we don't know if there will be any problems. He thinks we should try naturally first.  It would really be up to us how long we would want to try naturally.  He did say we can try naturally but do a monitored cycle and he could offer me a trigger shot to be even more precise with timing.  All of this sounds reasonable to me.  what do you all think? does this seem reasonable?  Did any of your RE's say something similar? I know that most people don't see one until they have a problem with TTC.

thanks!

Re: RE apponitment

  • Honestly I find it a little strange that you went to a RE before you even started TTC.  Having PCOS does not necessarily mean that you will have trouble conceiving, many women with PCOS conceive on their own.  Since it sounds like you are ovulatory,I recommend trying on your own and charting your BBT.  If you don't get pregnant in a year, then go back to the RE.

  • Yes I agree with Twinkie it's strange you went to RE first. I have pcos and was ttc for a year before going to RE. Anyone under 30 is standard to ttc for year first and 6 months or less for anyone else 30. Take some time have fun and make babies before going to doctors

  • its interesting that you guys think that.  You're supposed to TTC for a year before seeing a doc if you don't have any known medical issues that could cause a problem.  I knew I have a reason for a potential problem.  Aside from conception you have to have your hormone levels checked as many with PCOS don't have enough progesterone and  a short LP which could cause a problem even after a BFP.  My endocrinologist told me years ago I would need to see someone when it came time to TTC so i figured i'd rather be safe then sorry.

I agree with IFinTN. I would educate yourself by reading Taking Charge of your Fertility and start charting. If you find that you are timing sex perfectly for 6 months and you're not pregnant, I'd definitely think you should work closer with the RE at that point. I wouldn't wait a year if you're timing things right and you know you have PCOS. The RE might just put you on Metformin. Lots of women have success with PCOS, with or without intervention. Good luck.
