DS is always asking about his pop tart that he gets in the morning at bedtime. I always tell him he has to listen in the morning and do what he is told to get ready for daycare to get it.
He wakes up on his own. I hear him yawning at his door. I go in there to help him get ready. He picked out clothes and doesn't match again! It was red and orange together!
He was proud that he got ready and said "I listened!" I told him "yes, you did listen."
We may have our first friend! Brodie, the boy who "always annoyed her" a week ago is now the first thing she talks about after school. I walked her into class yesterday and immediately two boys came up and were like, "Sophie! Sophie!" -- one wanted to show her his shirt, and Brodie wanted to talk about her going home early for a doctors appointment.
Apparently Brodie has also switched teams at recess to be on DD1's, and he "protects" her team and he is a "magickler" and she found "magic crystals" for him to keep in his pocket. LOL. I can barely decipher most of the patter, but it all sounds good. And I have to say, Brodie is kind of cute, too.
She had two soccer games this past weekend (making up for a rained-out weekend), and DH and I are so proud of how she's doing. She's more focused, really trying, and less frustrated about not scoring goals because she's starting to recognize the value of doing some defense, too. This is her sixth season and we both really feel like she doesn't stick out the way that she used to, and she's about middle-of-the-pack in terms of skills and understanding. It's very encouraging!
I witnessed DS2 (almost 4, CP) today use his walker and go inside the DCP house and turn the corner (independently) to go down the hall to go to the bathroom. He is getting better and better at using his walker! Not sure what it is...practice, a lightbulb going on for him, and/or the fact that he seems to have finally grown into the walker. He still has balance issues (always will) and you still have to be close to him but to not have to push the walker for him or to be physically touching him while using it is pretty exciting!
DS2 also "graduated" from feeding therapy a couple of months ago. He is starting to drink from an open cup with supervision and is getting better at using silverware! He also appears to be enjoying school more this year (developmental preschool at the elementary school, only goes 2 days per week at this point). I don't think he has cried at a drop off yet this year!
Lots of good things happening for DS2! Now if only he'd stop the whining and throwing fits when things don't immediately go his way or when he doesn't want to do something.....
Forgive me, I have to post a "brag/vent". Brent? Vrag?
Yesterday's note home wasn't *as* bad as the previous ones. The note said he was quiet and did his work appropriately for about 1.5 hours of the day. It also said that DS "skunked" the room and laughed at how the room smelled so bad. I was very confused. I asked DS what it meant to "skunk" the room and he looked completely blank. I tentatively asked him- did you fart?! He looks confused/embarrased and says no. (He isn't one to talk about farting and doesn't find it "funny" like other kids). I ask him again (seriously starting to wonder if they have my kid confused for another kid) but then he says, "Ohh, yea, I DID fart, but I didn't fart ON anybody, so it was okay."
So my vent is- really, teacher, did I really need to hear about this in the note home from school? I did talk with DS about saying excuse me and such, but sheesh. TMI, IMHO.
Dd had her adnoids/tubes in her ears last Monday. She's now responding to her name pretty much all the time and is using a larger Variety of sounds. I'm glad that I've been told for the past 18+ months there wasn't enough fluid to impact her hearing or speech. |
DS climbed up into McDs playland tubes and went all the way to the top! Its an indoor playland so its extra tall- like two stories of hamster like tubes. My mouth was open and my eyes were tearing up I was so happy. My son's SPD keeps him from even wanting to sit on a trike or sit on a swing without freaking out.
Three months of OT and glasses and I have a little daredevil!! I was so proud I pic texted my SLP and my family
Lily got her wheelchair on Monday. On Tuesday, she rolled out of therapy all by herself, refused to roll up to the van, and threw a fit when we took her out. I absolutely love it!
DH and I were washing dishes in the kitchen and Nate come up to the gate with three 'bed friends' ( kitty, puppy, and bunny) He was picking them up to toss them into the kitchen and I said "oh no! Don't throw your friends! Play with them!"
He then proceeded to arrange them in a circle and started saying "Uh, uh, ooh!", taping their heads and running in place on the "ooh". DH and I looked at each other and said "was that duck duck goose?!!!" It was hilarious.
I asked at school if they had been playing it recently and the last time he played it was in the spring. We don't play it here. I guess the "friends" have a social life after all.
