Any other high risk mamas?

I know there is a high risk board, but just checking in to see if there are any other high risk mamas here.  If so, share your stories!

I am considered high risk because of some complications I had with my last pregnancy.  Normally, my blood pressure is great, but at around 34 weeks I developed high blood pressure.  I was hospitalized twice to be monitored before I delivered and found out I also had a low platelet count and was put on bed rest. Luckily, I never developed pre-e, but had many of the symptoms.  At 37 weeks, I was sent for an amnio to see if my lo's lungs were developed so that they could induce me, and my fluid levels were so low that they didn't even bother trying to get any fluids and sent me straight to the hospital to be induced the next morning.  Delivery went well and I delivered a healthy baby boy.

My son was born with a very rare foot deformity called Congenital Vertical Talus.  The talus bone in his foot was vertical instead of horizontal. 35v b He had to have surgery to basically have his entire foot reconstructed and pinned back together at 14 months, wore a full leg cast for 3 months, and still currently wears an AFO ankle brace.  We have ruled out that it wasn't a genetic issue, so the doctors believe it was a positional thing caused by my low fluid levels.

Because of all this, I will now be monitored by a maternal fetal specialist in addition to my regular obgyn.  I hate the "high-risk" label, but am thankful to be watched more closely this time around.

Re: Any other high risk mamas?

  • I am high risk because I have Lupus and hypothyroidism and with that positive for lupus anticoagulant and APS so that means I am at a high risk for miscarriage throughout pregnancy due to higher risk for blood clots as well as for pre-e. This is my first so it's pretty scary but trying to take it day by day!

  • I'm technically high risk (seeing only MFMs instead of OB) but I'm being monitored and on meds so I'm not that worried and I don't "feel" high risk. If that makes sense. I get DVTs due to a clotting disorder. On Lovenox twice a day to prevent that.

  • I'm high risk due to late term loss, multiple miscarriage, Gestational diabetes and HELLP syndrome.

I love my MFM so that is good.  But yeah I'm going to be heavily monitored.

  • I'm also high risk because of past issues & Ménière's disease. Although being a FTM, I'm not sure what it means yet besides seeing the OB more & having him monitor my meds.
  • I am considered high risk because of pre-e at the end of my pregnancy with DS. I was also severely anemic during the whole pregnancy. About 18 months ago, I had 2 TIA (aka mini-strokes) so I will also be monitored to make sure no issues arise.

  • I'm high-risk but I don't know that I'll get much extra monitoring until we come down to the wire. I have a kidney disease that starts off simple but left unchecked shuts them down. I was fine with DD until I developed pre-e during labor and crashed pretty fast. I think we're going to be monitoring me (not necessarily the baby) more, meeting with MFM and consulting with Nephrology. Hopefully coming up with a plan to avoid it this time by potentially delivering a week early or slightly before 40wks. (DD was 41)

  • I'm high-risk due to AMA (advanced maternal age); I'm 39 1/2.  Also, I have Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and have had previous early losses.  I'm seeing an OB rather than a specialist, but she's monitoring my betas pretty closely.  I should be 6 weeks tomorrow based on LMP, but betas put me closer to 4 weeks.

  • I'm high risk due to a late term loss as well as type 2 diabetes and HBP. And now another multiple pregnancy. I've been released to a MFM from my RE and I'll be seeing them exclusively from here on out.

  • I was considered high risk for my first pregnancy. I loved the extra attention and extra ultrasounds :) I was HR because I had a LEEP procedure done and they were afraid I wouldn't be able to carry to term. Luckily I carried to 39wks but I developed pre-e during labor. Doc doesn't know what cause the pre-e considering I had a very healthy pregnancy, so she said she probably won't consider my high risk this time around.
  • I am.  I'm AMA (almost 37) and had Pre-E with my son.

I've had two early miscarriages as well, but I've yet to have a doctor say that is cause for concern in there eyes.

  • Considered high risk because of epilepsy. First pregnancy.

I have controlled epilepsy but taking two med to control it, my family Dr is trying to get me with a OBGYN that knows high risk just in case my epilepsy or meds affect anything.
  • I'm a FTM, I'm high risk because I had a blood clot in the past. I'll be starting lovenox injections this week, and I'll be on blood thinners the entire pregnancy. Because of my surgical history, I have to have a cs, and my docs said they'd probably induce me at 38 wks (which may mean I should be on the April board, but official due date was May 7, so here I am).

  • I am too. Had severe pre-e my last time most likely due to hashimotos. Had multiple m/c and have clotting issue.
  • I had severe pre-e and LO developed IUGR (intrauterine growth retardation) with my last pregnancy.  I'm very nervous about this pregnancy.

It is a bummer because I somewhat feel like I can't 100 percent enjoy the pregnancy because I'm worried about what might happen...like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Anyone else feel this way?

Also, anyone want to do a weekly check-in?

  • I'm high risk as well. Type 2 diabetes, spinabifida and am 36. So far so good though. I get seen by an endro and high risk ob clinic. As well as the normal ob. Fun so many appointments.
  • I'm HR because I have a blood condition called Spherocytosis. It makes you extremely anaemic as red blood cells are destroyed and break down 3x quicker than they should. I was Induced with my son at 37 weeks because the breakdown of cells cause high levels of a chemical called bilirubin which can prove harmful to the baby. My condition is hereditary and my son has got it, so this baby will have blood tests after birth too to see if he/she has it too. As well as this, OH was born with a congenital heart problem and had a transplant 6 years ago. ill have another fetal heart scan to make aure baby hasnt got heart problems too. I'll be closely monitered throughout pregnancy to make sure baby is developing well and growing etc. it's nice to know I have extra scans and they are keeping a close eye on me. X

  • I have a history of pre-term labor. I was on bedrest for 12 weeks and had the 17P shots weekly with my last pregnancy. I was hospitalized once and given steroid shots for the baby. I"m also over 35 so I am considered high risk and will be seeing a MFM as well and monitored closely. In addition I will start the 17P shots at 16 weeks.
