I want sushi!! Now!

I'm 7w/2d and all I can think about is sushi! I've read you shouldn't eat sushi or anything raw for that matter. Anyone?!??

Re: I want sushi!! Now!

  • I had some over the weekend. It is from a place we go to all the time. I didn't order any rolls that were raw though. I stuck to crab and shrimp.

  • I can eat sushi everyday!! It's going to be a very long 9 months without it! LOL!
  • I LOVE sushi! Should we be worried about cross contamination from their raw orders? Or is that just paranoid thinking?
What about the fried rolls? Is that safe?

  • It's just the raw fish you need to avoid and even that is controversial. Personally I won't be taking chances but anything cooked is fine. Last week I had yam and avocado rolls.

  • From what i read just avoid the raw stuff, california rolls or any cooked rolls should be fine, I would consider asking if the cooked rolls are cut separately from the raw ones just to be safe.
  • I've been wanting sushi so bad, too! Although, I won't eat anything raw this time around. I did have a few pieces with ds from a place we trusted. Thankfully there are plenty of other yummy rolls to choose from!
  • I agree with @mapleme.  Know where it's coming from.  If it's a place you trust, go for it.  I wouldn't go trying any new places, which sucks because there's a place I wanted to try downtown, but if you trust it enough to get it raw before you got pg, I wouldn't worry.
  • I have every intention of partaking in some delicious sushi, raw or otherwise at least a few times between now and May. From the deli at Target? No. From the amazing Japanese restaurant we always go to? Absolutely.

  • I've been craving it for awhile now!!!
  • Agree with previous posters - as long as it's a reputable place that you've been to before and never had any issues, it's fine.  Just don't go somewhere new and don't buy the cheap stuff from the grocery store just b/c you have a craving lol

  • I saw sushi and now it's all I want for lunch today...I may call and ask what rolls are cooked because I can't do just plain veggie rolls for some reason.

  • I had sushi on Sunday and it was fantastic - if you go to a place that you trust, and avoid the high mercury fish, sushi is fine. I had salmon rolls and california rolls.

  • I had sushi on Sunday at our favorite place.  It was amazing :) I had mostly baked or tempura rolls, but I *might* have had some raw, too.  It was too good to pass up.
  • It's the mercury levels in fish that's the real concern. I have read that having fish every now in then is fine as long as its not everyday (because mercury builds up in your system) but I would still avoid raw. And like the ladies before said California rolls and the like should be fine

  • My nurse practitioner told me today there are no food restrictions while pregnant, just be cautious with what you eat. Obviously you don't want to eat sushi or any food that's been siting out too long, or lunch meat that's 5 days old.
  • When I was pregnant with DS I asked my doc about sushi and he said it was fine in moderation. DH and I went to my favorite sushi spot probably half a dozen times while I was pregnant, I ate all of the same stuff that I normally would and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have plans to go next weekend for our anniversary :)
