4 months or 6 months for solids

I see a lot of the 4 month olds starting on solids. We're personally waiting until 6 months, just because it's what we did with DD1 and it worked out well for us. I sometimes feel tempted to start earlier in hopes to supplement breastfeeding, but she's not even rolled over yet and I know that's not a requirement, but I feel like she should at least do that before we start solids.

So I just thought I'd do a little poll and see what others are doing. 4 months, 6 months, or something in between?

4 months for us. Glad we started because we are not starting fruits and veggies until 2 weeks after he eats oatmeal twice a day for us. We are starting twice a day oatmeal after he masters once a day oatmeal.

By my estimate we have another week or 10 days of once a day oatmeal and then 2 weeks of twice a day oatmeal. I am thinking LO will be damn near 6 months before we get to F&V.

I'm pretty sure I'm waiting until 6 months. My DS has no interest in sitting up and actually hates sitting so I don't think he's ready yet. He just prefers rolling and trying to crawl right now. :)

Four months. LO had doubled his birth weight and showed all of the "ready" signs. He's rolling over and sitting briefly unsupported. His ped gave me the go-ahead and he's doing great. He eats about 4 oz of fruits and veggies per day.

I'm guessing somewhere after 5. She's not showing any signs yet, so I'll wait for those, and if its around 6 months, that's fine too.
DS was staring at our food, and trying to grab off our plates when we started with him. LO isn't even close to that.

We started at 4-1/2 ish months.  The Dr. said at his weight we could wait till 6 months but a few weeks ago he started getting extremely fussy in the late afternoons and even after nursing almost constantly he was still hungry.

I started with making my own oatmeal and putting it in the food processor.  I added applesauce to make it taste better.   I am now skipping the oatmeal, he eats fresh fruits and vegies that I have processed.  I puree them just enough he will not choke but still chunky enough he knows he is eating something (not sure that makes sense)
I feed him in the evening only at this point.

I have been feeding him tiny bits of things since he was a couple months old.

I just started them today, so 4.5 months.  Their doctor gave the go ahead at their 4 month appointment.  I was going to wait until 6 months like I did with Max, but I think they are ready. They are showing all the signs, and Ben practically loses his mind every time someone eats.

I had every intention of waiting til 6 mo, but little man was showing every sign of being ready I read about. Doc said give it a go, for fun, not for nutrition. We stated today with some oatmeal and he chowed it down, so I'm glad we started. Well stick with once a day for a while. Just to experience and have fun with it. I'm not expecting/wanting it to replace any of his BM right now, and doctor said it shouldn't. It's just experimentation.

I am leaning to 4.5 months, depends on what the doctor says as well. A has been rolling since before she was 2 months and can sit a few seconds at a time. She is very interested when she watches people eat although I am not sure all that means a lot. She will be 4 months soon. I had planned on waiting until 6 months but she just seems ready so I'l probably only wait until she is 4.5 months. I just want to make sure breastmilk remains her main food source so we will go very slowly in to the world of solids.

I plan to use cereal, purees both bottled and home made and after she is 6-7 months to give her actual food in larger pieces as well. Kind of a big mix of everything. It worked before.

I was planning on waiting until 6 months. Ds has his 4 month check up on oct 5. I am going to ask about starting oatmeal. Ds has recently shown a lot of interest when we are eating. I would wait on fruit and veggies til six months. I'm skipping the rice cereal.

We plan on starting BLW around 6 months, which probably means a lot of playing with food until she figures it all out.

I think I'm going to skip the cereal. I FF and it has tons of iron, so I'm not sure LO will need it since most of it is fortified with iron. I hope that makes sense.

4 months. He was ready. He has excellent head and neck control, sits well if supported. He was interested in food - watching and mimicking us, trying to get our plates. And at 3.5 months old he started to actively take and swallow he reflux meds. Our pedi is OK with a 4 month start if the baby is ready.

He gets a tablespoon of oatmeal mixed with 3 tablespoons of BM for "dinner." We're going to start avocado tomorrow. May be coincidence, but he's sleeping much better now that he's started solids.

My plan is six months.  However, she still is not taking a bottle while I'm at work. We are trying cups this week.  I'd rather start cereal at 4 months than have her not eating at all.  I think?  Ugh.  Going to talk to pedi at her 4 month apt.  She'll be 4 months 2 weeks then.

::bangs head on desk screaming "why won't you eat?!"::

we're waiting till 6 months. I asked our pedi about this at her 4 month appt, and he told us if we want to start her early we can discuss it, but he doesn't see the need to start with all the mess. She is still working on rolling and can kind of sit up when we hold her, but she doesn't seem to care that we're eating at all.

We just started some oatmeal cereal mixed with BM this past weekend, he will be 5 months this week.

just for fun right now, but he has been reaching for my food for a few weeks, and hit all the other milestones weeks ago.

we will start with some veggies and fruits in a few weeks when he masters the oatmeal/BM combo.

4 months!! Started last week and she loves it! She is so excited during food time she squeals. And her gas and poop issues seem to be better. We mix the rice cereal in with the purées. She never really cared for the cereal on its own.

We started at 4 months per our pediatrician's recommendation. She told me to start feeding rice cereal mixed with breastmilk twice a day. Then at 5 months start fruits & veggies. And 6 months meats. LO is loving the cereal so it's a success so far for us. Seeing him sitting in his high chair and feeding him from a spoon makes him seem like such a big boy. It is really cute but I'm not quite used to it yet! Good luck with whatever you decide :)
