Re: o~o~October Precious Pumpkins Thursday Check-in~o~o

  • Hi Pumpkins!

Not much going on here.  I'm still on BCP, but I start Lupron next Wednesday.  My meds come today so I am working from home anxiously waiting for the FedEx guy to come.  For some reason it is just so exciting to get a box filled with thousands of dollars worth of meds, that or I am just strange. :)  I also got the bill for the balance of my cycle yesterday.  It said it was due 9/16, but my nurse said that my payments were due 9/23.  The anesthesia bill the sent along with the cycle balance bill says it is due 9/23.  I was also told I had a credit from my last cycle because I didn't make it to transfer, but they didn't put the credit on my bill.  Now I am waiting to call this morning to get everything straightened out.

QOTD:  Either Telepathy because reading people's minds would be interesting, I don't know how many times I have wondered what someone is thinking or Telekinesis because I am lazy and moving things with my mind sounds awesome!

  • Hi Pumpkins!  Nothing new since yesterday...just started my estrogen pills and will go back on Monday for a check in b/w and u/s.  Still on track for FET on 10/6!!  Just curious...are you ladies planning to do SET or more?  DH and I are so torn with what to do.  Of course we know the risks, and I have another consult w/my RE next week to talk about it more, but at the end of the day whether to transfer 1 vs. 2 is our decision.  I'm trying to make this a completely emotional decision, but it's hard when you have an analytical brain like I do.  Any advice on how you made you decision on how many to transfer?

QOTD: My initial reaction to this question is always flight.  I just think it would make me so much more efficient and productive not to have to sit in Jersey traffic ALL. THE. TIME. when I could just fly right over it and get everywhere quickly.  We live right outside of NYC so it's constant for us....but we love where we live :-)

My RE is recommending transfering two embryos (FX that we make it that far).  He had this same recommendation with IVF #1 and I was less convinced then.  However after having such a terrible cycle (only had 3 poor quality embryos that stopped growing before our transfer date), I am 100% on board with his recommendation.

I would probably do the same if I were you!  We are fortunate enough (thank you Jesus! in Melissa Gorga fashion) that we have 16 pretty high quality frosties, and all of the REs in my practice are recommending that we just try 1, and they've had high success rates with one, blah blah blah.  However, that's a hard pill to swallow when your emotional side is saying "but your chances of conceiving with transferring 2 are higher!"  I know either way I'm going to think to myself "what if."  Such a tough choice!  Financially it will be really tough for us if we do 2 and they both work, but I need to not think like that!  IMO this should be a completely emotional decision so I'm trying to keep finances and logic out!  *sigh*

It's a hard decision.  I think if I had that If I had as many high quality frosties and my RE was suggesting SET and they had high success rates with SET, I would consider it at least for the first transfer.  If that transfer was a BFN, I would probably want to try transfering two.

I can completely understand wanting to transfer two on the first shot though.  Being OOP for IVF, finances are a factor.  DH and I can realistically only afford one more fresh IVF before we will be forced to borrow money from family or take a break.

  • @Twinkie0612 - good luck to you girl! I can totally relate to the weird joy that comes with getting a crapload of IF in the mail, haha. Hey, would you mind adding IVF w/ICSI to my siggy? We're going to be doing that to cover any MFI issues.

@FutureMrsW9 - lol @ Melissa Gorga comment. Love that show :) I feel ya on the transfer 1 vs 2. What our RE said was this, if you're the type of person who will be regretting only doing 1 if it were to fail, and who would beat yourself up wondering "what if we had done 2", then you should try 2. There's enough stress with this process as it is. That being said, we're definitely doing 2 should we be lucky enough (thank you jesus!) to have enough good blasts. We're more than OK with twins, and financially 100% OOP so only have so many tries at this thing!

AFM: Nothing really happening right now, still on the Lupron/baby aspirin combo and waiting for final shot class and suppression check tomorrow morning. If all looks well then we're on to stimming on Sunday! Ah! I'm excited! No side effects from the Lupron (yay) but I have been having some nasty nightmares at night, so I think I'm going to do my Circle+Bloom right before bed and see if that helps me.

Good luck to all our Pumpkins!

@Twinkie0612 - I totally get your excitement over meds.  Mine arrived on Tuesday just before I left for work (2nd shift) and I took a pic and was showing it off to people and text it to my parents and DH.  I just keep looking at it, like it's my hope in visual form.
@FutureMrsW9 - With your situation I'd do a SET.  Personally this is the only fresh cycle we can afford and with my and DHs age and finances we're transferring two (if we're able).

I had baseline yesterday and it went great!  AFC 19, E2 - 56, FSH- 7, LH- 5.6, and P4- 0.2.  I just woke up to starting to bleed (which since I stopped BCP sunday I guess is good timing) and I start meds (150 Follistim and 150 Menopur) tomorrow.  My next monitoring is Monday.

ETA QOTD:  I too would want the ability to hear others thoughts, but would want to be able to switch it on and off or else I picture it like in the movie "What Women Want" driving me a little crazy.

@katib77 Last cycle I took a picture and sent it to my sister.  Of course, my cat had to photobomb, so I sent it with the caption "This is what $$$$ worth of meds looks like, plus one cat."  She sent back, "at least the cat was free."  Our cat was a stray that DH found wandering around a field next to his work when she was about 6 weeks old.

  • I get to stop BCP today aswell as having m baseline ultrasound and bloodwork today. I should be starting the shots on Monday FX! Other than that nothing new.  I figure my ER should be some time around October 7th if all goes as planned.

We did just realize that 25 years ago yesterday my mother had her ET when she tried IVF back them\n. Lol it is nice that she went though it and has really been a great help with what to expect.

  • @Twinkie0612, I'm cracking up at your sister's witty response :D I can't wait to get my meds because that's a sign that we are moving forward! So exciting that yours are almost in your hands!

@FutureMrsW9, I think it's wise of you to listen to your heart in regards to your decision. My RE said that we will likely transfer two assuming we have that option when the time comes. We would love to have twins, so that risk is an exciting possibility for us. I think we would have made that decision (to transfer two) for ourselves if the doctor didn't recommend it. Good luck with your decision!!

AFM, we had our orientation yesterday. I will take my last BCP on Tuesday the 24th, go in for baseline monitoring on Friday the 27th and start stimming on Saturday the 28th. I'm working on finalizing my meds order and am excited that the ball is rolling!

QOTD: I would want to fly like Superman. I imagine it would be an exhilarating and joyful experience, and would come in handy if I had to get somewhere quickly (like work... I'm always running late!)

My Blog: Running and Dreaming for Two ~ All are Welcome!
  • Happy Thursday, Pumpkins!

I had a good RE appointment yesterday. I had a triple-layer lining so it looks like my ute has responded well to the estrogen regimen and I am officially cleared for a FET next cycle. My meds are ordered and I will start Lupron a week from today. Transfer looks like it will be sometime the week of 10/21. We signed our consent form (for 2 embies, gulp) and it is full steam ahead!!!

@FutureMrsW9 - I am very pro-SET and did SETs with my fresh transfer and my first FET. Both were BFPs but resulted in miscarriage. We're doing 2 this time because a) it seems like there's a decent chance of miscarriage of one or more and b) they are frozen in pairs so we have to thaw 2 anyway (if we re-freeze one of them, it may not survive). I'm also 35 and have finally made peace with the idea of twins. From what you've shared of your situation, I would be inclined to do SET but it's a very personal decision!

    QOTW: Teleportation!
    Married my wife 8/2007 ~ TTC #1 since 7/2011

  • FutureMrsW- I liked your post for the Melissa Gorga reference and your 16 frosties. AWESOME!

I'm on BCPs. I was nervous they would make me super nauseas (they did in the past when I took them YEARS ago) but I've been good, so knock on wood it continues this way.

I have my Saline Sonogram on Tuesday. Hoping everything looks good. I'm so nervous it will be painful. Any advice?

Just praying this cyst goes away before Oct. 11th. If it doesn't, delayed at least 2 months. If it does, I'll be jumping right to stims, which is exciting :) Here's hoping for the later!

I got my meds and either my clinic or the pharmacy messed up.  When I called the pharmacy last week to check on my order, they told me that they didn't have my order.  I called my nurse and she re-faxed my prescription to them.  The pharmacy called a little later and got my credit card info and gave me the total and it matched what I was expecting.  I just opened my box and they sent me a new lupron kit, even though I told my nurse that I had enough left for this cycle.  I check my receipt and the pharmacy ran my credit card twice once for the total they had given me and once for $119, which is the price of the lupron kit.  I am guessing that at least one of the faxes that she sent, she must have forgotten to take off the lupron.  Since I doubt that I can return the meds, it looks like I will be using a new vial of lupron.  It's a major waste of money, since I am only going to be on lupron for about a week.

Also I didn't realize how many extra needles I had from last cycle, looking at my box it looks like I could have a serious IV drug issue.

I am still waiting on a call back about my credit from last cycle.

ETA:  I left the office manager another message.  I'm sure the girl at the front desk is tired of me calling.  Yes, apparently I'm that patient, you know the one that is a complete PITA.

  • Hi Pumpkins!
Just had my nurse consult today. Have my calendar I start Lupron 9/22.  My baseline and U/S is on 10/2 and egg thawing & ICSI 10/17.

ET will be on 10/22. We are doing a 5dt, not sure how many yet. RE put on the notes single ET if we have a superstar due to my wonky shaped ute. I really want 2, I feel like it would give us better chances, specially with the cryoocyte IVF being a trial.

Pharmacy just called to say they have my meds. I thought it was just Lupron, E2 patches and PIO. Nooo, it just so happens there is azathioprine and pred the nurse didn't give me the instructions for those!! So I am not picking up my Rx until I talk to the nurse tomorrow. Also I am a vet there is a chance I can order this stuff (pred and azathioprine) cheaper through work.

QOTD:  If you could have one super power what would it be? Teleportation, I think of it as free travel!

  • Hi Pumpkins! Nothing new here. Still waiting on AF. For the first time ever, I can honestly say I cannot wait for her arrival.. never thought I'd be saying that! Today is CD29, however I usually run 29-32, plus I had the d&c really early in this cycle.. so hopefully she will arrive soon!

QOTD: I really wish I had super-cooking powers! Usually, I can follow recipes or Pinterest instructions really well... but today, dinner's in the oven, and the smoke detector has gone off 3 times! Nothing's on fire or even burning, I swear! DH thinks it may be time to run the oven's cleaning cycle. Or, maybe our new smoke detector is just super sensitive, idk..
  • FET 2 scheduled Oct 3.
DH will be away on work trip, which means for the first time I will have to rely on my parents. Ugh! I am a very secretive person.

  • Hello pumpkins! ~ I had my suppression check yesterday and everything looked perfect so I started stims today (Menopur & Follistim) and a decreased dosage of Lupron. The shots are going okay since my wonderful DH is being my nurse and giving them to me (I'm afraid of needles). So glad that he is able to help me with this. Since starting the shots I have been having a lot of anxiety, so that's my biggest complaint.

@Twinkie0612 ~ I guess you can move me to stimming! You can also add ICSI.

@Sunny B ~ For me the saline sonogram was painful, but I expected it to be because I have pain with a pap. However, it was so quick so it wasn't too bad. I did get really crampy afterwards. Some of the ladies on this board had recommended that I take something for the cramps ahead of time, which I did and am glad I did so. I hope it goes well for you!

    QOTD: The power to heal.

  • Hi, everyone! I started lupron in sept. 6, expecting to get my period a week later. I was supposed to call on the first day. However, it never came! So, I called yesterday ams they said to let them know tomorrow if it came yet or not. Either way, I'm going to try to get in tomorrow so they can check my lining and hormone levels. I'm hoping that not having started my period yet is not going to cause any problems with our ivf cycle. I talked to a nurse today who said that is they check the lining and it's already thin, they will start the next step anyways. If the lining is still thick they can give me something to make my body shed the lining, and then start the next step. Hoping that's true. Af never comes when you want her to, only when you don't! How frustrating!

QOD: my superpower might have to be reading minds also.... Or telling the future... but I don't think i'd want either power all the time. There are some things better left unknown!

  • Sorry for the typos... on phone

  • Welp, I guess I can be added to the stimming list!!

At our suppression u/s this morning the RE said we were ready to go today instead of Sunday! Luckily I had my meds with me (they did a shot class and inventory check for us) so I took my first follistim shot right there in the office! I'll be on follistim in the a.m. and a low dose lupron +menopur in the p.m. I have 35ish AFC and they're warning me to eat lots of protein to prevent OHSS.

I also got a tour of the OR and transfer room to help with positive thinking and visualization. That was awesome!

I'm so excited!! Tentative ER will be Oct 2nd. Woohoo! Let's go Pumpkins!

  • We got our PGS results back and we have only one good embryo to transfer.  Glad to know ahead of time though that one had genetic issues.  I should get my calendar next week for our FET on Halloween.
QOTD:  I wish I could make myself invisible anytime I wanted.  Yesterday I was working on a project that needed to get to a publication ASAP and a solicitor walked in.  He talked to my new employee who said, "Well that's my boss over there....."  I had to stop what I was doing to tell him that I would not be changing banks and then have a talk with my new employee that I'm never hear for solicitors who can't read the two signs on our door.  If I could make myself invisible that would never be an issue!
