Tmi questions - not about mucus plug.

I have had a lot more discharge lately and my vagina is very swollen right now. I know this is normal for 38 weeks. What I am also experiencing today is itching like a yeast infection. Could this be just irritation from the swelling and discharge or should I just go ahead and treat myself for a yeast infection? Anyone else experiencing this too? What treatments have worked best for you as far as yeast infections go? Sorry for the TMI...

  • Is it mucus like, or cottage cheese like?

If it's yeast, I would use garlic.

It is more egg whitish and mucusy (if that is even a word).

  • It sounds like you lost your mucus plug.

Yes, I have been losing bits of it for a few weeks now. What is concerning me is the itching.

  • I have had slightly more discharge and lots of external itching. I just got some Monistat today. Deft a yeast infection here, it is that telltale itching that turns into painful burning if you scratch it. Google told me Monistat was safe, but I'll mention it at my appt on Friday just to be safe.

  • For sure sounds like yeast to me, I had the exact same thing last week! Got a rx for diflucan and it was cleared up the next day. Don't waste your time with garlic, that may not even help, you'll stink to high heavens, and you don't want to just be chilling with an infection while you're pregnant. Good luck!

  • Could be a yeast infection but it could also be a change in your pH levels due to pregnancy and combine that with extra discharge, your skin gets easily irritated. Cold wet rags help but if its just irritation and not a yeast infection, that is about all you can do aside from changing underwear frequently or leaving that area "open to air"

  • I would make an appt for sooner rather than later to get it checked out because it sounds like a YI to me.

  • Get acidophilus from a health food store..make sure it the kind they keep in the fridge. Yeast infection gone the next day!
  • Ill also add- with all this crazy discharge it's a good idea to wear pads and change them often. Keeping the area as dry as possible will help ward off YI's.

Ok, not to sound stupid, but how do you know she lost her mucus plug?
  • i would have rather read an entire thread of mucous plug talk.
