After a fast and furious 6.5 hour labor and delivery, Violet was born at 3:55 am on September 16.
8 lbs, 3 oz. and 20.5 inches long.
My water broke all over our couch and bathroom around 9:15 PM and within 30 minutes my contractions were only 3 -4 min apart lasting 1 min. I labored at home for about 4.5 hours before I realized things were happening really fast. We got to the hospital at about 2:30 a.m. and I was already 7 cm!
After being monitored for a bit and being very vocal, (something I didn't expect from myself) I got to get into the birthing tub. About 30-45 min later I was 10 cm and was told I could push. I was involuntarily pushing with each contraction so the midwife figured I was ready. Pushing was just as bad as the contractions for me! I didn't feel relief when pushing at all. Oh and the ring of fire is no joke!
It took about 5-6 contractions to get the head out and I could feel every bit of her 13.75" head stretching me!
So about an hour and a half after getting to the hospital, Violet was born! We were team green sonit was a complete surprise that it was a girl. Everyone thought it was a boy!
I'm so glad I got to do a water birth and went unmedicated as that was my plan all along.
For a FTM I'm also glad my labor went quickly, if not a little too quickly! I had a 2nd degree tear so a few stitches, but otherwise I feel really good 4 hours later! Violet just had her first big feeding and latched on well!
I was 39 weeks 4 days when I went into labor. Good luck to all the other mommies still waiting. You can do it!
Re: My NUCB Hospital Water Birth!
It was pretty easy to get my bearings in the tub to push with the help of my husband and doula holding my hands so I wasn't floating too much. Then I was able to pull back on my legs when I needed to get some more strength behind the pushes.
Overall, I liked giving birth in the tub, especially since laying on the bed in triage was absolute torture for me!
