If you have morning sickness, what does it feel like?

Just curious....I have it a little bit here and there. I never throw up. Just feel like I could. It almost feels like car sickness, without the motion or sweating. And I get full really easy. Does anyone else's come and go? What does everyone else's feel like?

  • Pretty much the same, some times are better than others. Just a constant nausea so far, does feel a little better after eating...sometimes.

  • A wicked, wicked hangover for 6 weeks straight.  Some days I can barely function, other's I can do little things.  You will know without question, when it strikes you dead in your tracks.

  • It's different for everyone. For me it's like the sickly empty feeling you get when you haven't eaten for a really long time - even if you've just eaten an hour ago. I have to have food when it kicks in or it just gets worse. So far no vom, so I think my approach is working.

  • I have not had it yet thankfully with this pregnancy. But I had it horribly last time for about 5 months.  Car sickness is a good way to describe it.  I also would liken it to being hung over.

  • @awc1986 that's how I would describe what I feel this time. When I get hungry I feel famished and sometime nauseous.

  • @brandyjean30 OMG I was seriously going to say the same exact thing!  Feels like a hangover, especially after a long night with some tequila!! haha!!

  • Mine is bad. I am sick first thing when I get up in the morning. Before I was prescribed Zofran, I could barely function at work. I was constantly having to run to the bathroom and couldn't keep anything down. (As a teacher, this is not acceptable. I can't just leave my class all the time. Luckily I teach high school, so it's not against the rules to leave them alone for a minute.) I couldn't keep anything down, not even water. I called my doctor after trying everything else (sea bands, vitamin B6). She prescribed the Zofran. It doesn't completely cure my nausea, but I can at least function. The car sick reference sounds like what I felt before it got really bad. Just pray it doesn't get any worse than that!!

  • I can only liken it to the worst hangover you've ever had in your entire life.  Mine just keeps getting worse at the week goes on - and I actually vomited for the first time this morning.  Prior to that, it had been constant nausea and dry heaving.  I actually think it's time for me to call the dr. and try to take something to alleviate this, as I can't hold any food down.

  • I agree that it feels like a hangover but I do vomit. So I feel more and more nauseous until I start to gag and throw up, then I usually feel better right after. For about a half hour, then I start to feel more and more nauseous again. Sometimes I can avoid or put off throwing up with sprite or crackers but not always. It is the most awful feeling.

  • Like I'm car sick on and off all day.  I haven't thrown up yet, but I've had diarrhea, which is the opposite of my first pregnancy when I was guzzling prune juice to try to poop.  TMI? Probably, but some parts of pregnancy are gross.  Hope you feel better soon.

  • I was wondering the same thing. This is my first pregnancy so I've never experienced any of this before and I'm the first in my family to be pregnant and I only have one friend who has a kid and she had one of the easiest pregnancies. I have been feeling like I have an upset stomach all day every day and it gets worse randomly to where I'm nauseated, you know the way it feels when you haven't eaten for a long time. Then I'll eat thinking I'll feel better and I do feel better while I'm eating but then right after I feel worse and don't even want to think about the food I just ate. I really hope this doesn't last long. I'm only 6 weeks and start a new job on Monday.
  • I'm only 4 weeks so I get it sparingly for now. Last time, I had it from 5 weeks to 5 months straight. We'll just say, my post baby weight was 25 pounds less than my pre-baby weight. (Baby was fine, and I had plenty to lose)

It feels like you are at that "oh man, I might puke... I might puke right now" phase of a bad drinking night... but then you NEVER FREAKING PUKE. Sometimes I would try to pull the trigger and it would not help. I hate puking, but would make myself puke, and unlike a drinking night, it does NOT help to vomit.

Save your trigger finger, once you're done heaving, the nausea is still there.

Best thing that worked for me last time were Green Apple B-Natals from babies-r-us. And forcing my self to eat at least one cracker every hour on the hour. Finally, making sure that before i ever got out of bed, I ate a couple crackers and laid back down.

  • I agree with the comparisons to car sickness. I feel like I'm going to get sick, but haven't yet. Mine lasts all day, and today was the worst by far. Hoping this isn't a sign of things to come. Don't know if I could handle much worse and continue to teach.

  • Also agree with the car sickness and hangover feelings. Sometimes I feel better after eating and other times it makes it worse. I havent actually gotten sick yet which I'm thankful for! I just wish I could feel well enough to workout. I may just have to try to push through it tomorrow! I am 6w1d.
  • I'm with Lizbub3. I feel like I need to throw up, but it never happens. Eating feels good at first, but get nauseous again right after. Ugh.
