First Appt. Too Early? (5weeks, 5days)

Hi!

When I called my ob/gyn to make my first appointment, they said they usually see you between 6 and 8 weeks. I asked about 9/24, even though I'll be 2 days shy of 6 weeks. I mostly wanted to get in earlier because I'm a nervous wreck (this is my first go-around with this!!). Now that I've done more research...I'm wondering if I'm going to regret going too early since it doesn't seem like they'll be able to see/hear anything (and I doubt they'll even try).

Any thoughts?

I know it sucks to wait, but personally I would call and push it back another week if this is for your first u/s. I'd like to know that you should for certain be able to see a baby and heartbeat on the monitor so you don't worry unnecessarily if you can't. However, I don't know how your OB does initial visits. Did they say if this was just a nurse visit to get all of your info and pregnancy baselines or whether you will actually see the doctor. My OB's office has you come in for a nurse visit at about 6wks and then come back to see the doctor around 8wks for the early ultrasound.

I would put it off a week. It is unlikely you will see a heart beat that early and probably just stress yourself out more.

The receptionist told me it was basically a fact-finding mission - family health history, blood work and that stuff. I was hoping I would maybe get to see something...but you're probably right AmandaFaith, if they wanted to see me at 6 weeks, they're probably planning to have me come back.

My first appt was at 3w6d, but it was only to confirm and get bloodwork. If they're intending to do an ultrasound, I would probably try to put it off a week. My first ultrasound is tomorrow and I'll be 7w5d.

I don't think they're intending to... I think it was just wishful thinking. They didn't mention anything about it, and seemed fine seeing me 5weeks5days. They only mentioned bloodwork and paperwork! Hopefully I'll get to go back soon after to see something!!

My first appointment was 5weeks 4 days and I got no feedback. Just gave my blood and pee and haven't heard anything back. No news is good news I guess!! Good luck!

Do you know if they even have ultrasound equipment on site?  My OB's office doesn't, so I get referred to the hospital next door for all my scans (which involves making a new appt).  If they don't have the equipment, it might still be worth going in, so you can get all the paperwork done and get a referral for a dating scan.

I'm 99% sure they have it on site, or at least in 1 of their 2 offices.

I just had my first u/s today at 5w4d (thought I was 6w4d from LMP but doc said I must have ovulated a week late). We saw the yolk sac but that was it, no heart beat or anything. He said its too early too see anything. I go back in two weeks. It doesn't hurt to wait because I had my hopes up to see more since I thought I was farther along. Although like others said, you may not get an ultrasound at your first appt anyway. Hope all goes well for you!

Thanks everybody! I think I'm going to stick with the appointment - my husband already took off work to come and I don't want to drive him insane this early, ha. They didn't mention anything about an U/S on the phone, just blood work and paperwork, and maybe peeing in a cup, haha. I'm totally game to go back whenever they want me back I'll camp out in the waiting room. #psychointhemaking
