Babies: 9 - 12 Months

10 month old newly needs to be rocked to sleep

edited September 2013 in Babies: 9 - 12 Months
DD is throwing me for a loop. We did the no cry sleep solution training around 4 months old and ever since we could put her down to bed awake when tired and she would fall asleep on her own. She dropped her MOTN feedings between 7-8 months and has been sleeping 12 hours a night ever since. Except the last 2 weeks. We went to visit my mom in Europe for 2 weeks. DH only stayed 1 week. 3 days after he left DD started waking up every hour screaming, I would nurse her to sleep or rock her to sleep but as soon as I set her down she'd be hysterical. Eventually I let her sleep in my bed, which sort of solved the problem. We came home to DH and after 2 more nights bedsharing we managed to get her back in her crib. Now, however, she still wakes up 3-5 times screaming. I give her the paci and set her back down, which used to work before this whole episode but now doesn't. I end up having to rock her to sleep and nurse her at the 3am wake up. She might wake up crying 1-2 more times after that, but puts herself back to sleep before I get to her room. I'm worried now that I'm also starting to have to rock her to sleep at nap time and bedtime. Is there such a thing as a 10 month sleep regression? Any idea what is going on and how to stop this new habit? Thanks for the help

DS also had a mini sleep regression when he developed separation anxiety, but that lasted for only a few days.  I suppose some babies may have sleep regression when they learn a new skill. Over the past 5 wks, DS learned to pull himself up, then cruising and standing up in the crib. But he didn't have regression due to those milestones.  Just plain old sickness and teeth.

She isn't sick but she did cut 2 new teeth in the last 2 weeks, so maybe it's teething. Does that explain why she won't go down to sleep at naptime/bedtime though? She also just learn to stand and cruise, so every time I go to her room at night she is jumping up and down in her crib screaming. Last night was the worse she was up every hour. As soon as I picked her up she was almost instantly asleep, so she is tired but she'd rather stand up and scream than go back to sleep on her own. Silly baby!

Yikes, that is tough!  As PP said, hopefully the novelty wears off soon and she'll go back to her normal self.

When DS started pulling up (instead of napping), I used to go in his room all the time to lay him back down.  Then I realized that he thought it was funny/a game that I'd keep reappearing.  In the end, I just had to let him be.  For several days, he'd be in his crib standing up/sitting down for upwards of 15-20 minutes (he doesn't cry though, maybe whined a bit).  eventually he got tired and went to sleep.

Another thing is, does your DD know how to get back down once she's up standing?  The first few days DS pulled himself up, he didn't know how to get down, so he would cry for me.  I quickly taught him how to sit down safely in his crib!
