Baby Names

Baby Names

My DH and I have not been agreeing on names.  I made a long list and he shot most of them down without giving me any of his own ideas.  We have the anatomy scan tomorrow and he will be finding out the sex (I don't want know).  I suggested we should make a list of names for both sexes, so that once he knows the sex he won't give it away.  Here's what we have narrowed it down to, what do you think?

Boys: (mn will definitely be Michael)
Alexander Michael
Oliver Michael (probably my top choice)
Nolan Michael
Evan Michael
Liam Michael (probably too popular)

Girls: (I would like to use Sylvia for mn, but have had a difficult time finding a fn match)
Alexandra Sylvia
Sylvia Corinne (probably going by Corinne or Cori)
Harper Sylvia
Evelyn Sylvia

Re: Baby Names

  • From your lists I prefer Evan and Alexandra.
  • I like all of your boy names and don't think you can go wrong.

Of your girl names, I only like Sylvia Corinne. Other ideas to go with the MN Sylvia:

    Abigail

    Charlotte

    Zoe

    Chloe

    Eleanor

    Frances

    Janet

  • For a boy-- I like Nolan and Evan best.

For a girl, I actually really like Sylvia in the FN spot.

    **RATE A NAME HERE!**
  • I like Evan Michael & Nolan Michael for a boy. For a girl I think you need a shorter name to go with Sylvia==1 or 2 syllables. Sylvia Kate, Sylvia Kathryn, Sylvia Anne, Sylvia Jane. Otherwise I choose Sylvia Corinne from your choices.
  • Your boy list names are all the same "flavor."  Of them, I like Oliver the best as well, although they're all solid choices and they all go well with Michael as a mn.  Of the list, Nolan is my least favorite, but I have a weird association with a student of that name that sort of ruins it for me.

The problem with your girl names is that Sylvia is either too close to many of the fn choices or doesn't coordinate at all.  For instance, Evelyn and Sylvia are too close.  Either one needs to be paired with something different.  But on the other hand, I feel like Harper and Sylvia are from such different styles that they clash.

FWIW, I had an Evelyn in one of my classes last year who went by Evie.  Really cute name!

  • I really love Oliver for a boy! I'm not a fan of any of the girl names.. I love Corrine and Sylvia. Alexandra would win though.
  • I like Sylvia as a FN choice as well... possibly Sylvia Rose

Alexander Michael- Safe, good solid name but nothing that really jumps out about it
Oliver Michael -NMS but good name
    Nolan Michael -I Love Nolan
    Evan Michael - Love Evan
Liam Michael - I wish Liam wasn't so popular, love it but it is a huge trend right now

Alexandra Sylvia- Like, do you plan on giving her a nn?
Sylvia Corinne (probably going by Corinne or Cori) I LOVE the name Corrine. Do you not like Corrine Sylvia?
    Harper Sylvia- seems trendy
    Evelyn Sylvia- Not my style

  • I like Alexander and Alexandra the best.

  • For your boy list: Oliver hands down

I agree with pp's - I like Sylvia Corrine / Sylvia in the fn spot. Any reason why you aren't using it there? The nn Sylvie is absolutely adorable - I grew up with one and always thought she had the coolest name.

  • Alexandra and Evan
  • I know a 4yr old boy named Nolan Michael. I think it's a great name! I also like Evan Michael from your list.

For girls - I think Sylvia Corinne is the best. It has a nice flow, and there's nothing wrong with calling your child by her middle name. Plenty of people go by a middle name.
