So, I'm only 6 weeks along, but its never too early, right?
If we have a boy, DH wants to name him Daniel Matthew... Daniel after his dad, Matthew after mine. I have always loved the name Daniel... but I've never really cared for Danny or Dan. Does anyone have tips on how to correct people who will try to nickname him? Like, if they say "hello cute little Danny boy" or something, do I just say "we're calling him Daniel"...?
Also, my poor dad... I have 2 cousins with the middle name Matthew, after my dad, and my 2nd cousins' son (my 3rd cousin?) is named Matthew, after my dad. I guess there is one first name in there, but still... I just feel he's being pushed aside to the middle name spot again. Will he feel less honored, do you think?
And I'm not sure I like the flow of Daniel Matthew... two syllable last name. Matthew Daniel is not an option, though I definitely don't like that flow, so I don't mind. But DH is unwilling to budge at this point with Daniel in the MN spot because, according to him, people hardly use the MN so its not a good way to honor someone. So what does that say about using my dad's name as a MN!? I like Elijah Daniel or Boaz Daniel. (Boaz was our #1 name for DS, but we didn't like the flow with Paul, which is a traditional mn for first boys in DH's family... he is Timothy Paul, his dad is Daniel Paul.)
So... What do you all think of Daniel Matthew?
Re: No nicknames please
I have a danilo (Daniel in Italian) and he has never been called by dan or danny...I corrected people and as he got a little older he did the same. he is grown now and still a danilo. it will take a little consistency on your part but it can be done.
I love Daniel matthew
I do not like boaz at all
I think both Daniel Matthew and Matthew Daniel are fine (and I agree your husband is being a little insulting with the "middle name slot isn't good enough for my dad but it is good enough for yours" attitude. I am assuming your kid will already have his paternal grandfather's last name). I don't think Daniel is a name that will automaticaaly be shortened in the same way some longer names might (ie: Christopher). I do not like Boaz at all.
