dental insurance?

DH and I have seperate insurance right now, but I've been thinking about switching to his so we can all be on the same. We put DD on his because it was better coverage. As i'm looking through his info, I see that he added her to medical, but not dental. He told me it didn't occur to him because she doesn't have teeth. So it got me thinking, do you add them as newborns or wait? Were lucky I guess because his open enrollment is soon, but I would be super pissed if we had to wait to put her on. What has everyone else done?

DH added Lucas to medical, dental and vision. We don't really know what we'd use it for, but for us it's only like $8 a month extra so we did it just in case we need it.

It's not really necessary since they don't see the dentist until they're two and pretty much any kind of oral care they would need your pedi would most likely refer them out for and it would be for a medical reason. You could add it when he's closer to two and save the extra money.

Our insurance is a family plan and it was $14 a month to add dental but that's for DH, me and LO. So she has dental even though she doesn't need it.

If we had to pay seperately for her I would wait.

I asked my pediatrician about this and she said all of lo's care would come from them for right now. Plus we have open enrollment coming up and can add him in December if we want.

We did not add him yet but same at @2012ames we are re-evaluating everything with the upcoming open enrollment in November so we may add him if it is a minimal cost in case an issue does arise.

We skipped it but are now kicking ourselves for it. He's having his tongue and lip tie done next week by a children's dentist and I don't think it'll be covered. :-(

When I started my new job the August after Corri was born, I added her to medical and vision (for the record, kids should have periodic eye exams well before age three, especially preemies). I didn't add her to dental until the next open enrollment period (that January) because she didn't have a tooth in her head until then, lol!

ETA: Gavin has already been added to medical, dental and vision because there is no additional cost since we already had a family plan in place since we had Corri.

Our Pedi recommends they see a dentist when they start getting teeth or by 1 year.

Thanks, everyone. Good to know. I guess I will check with our pedi before we decide what to do.
