False Negative's Frustrations!

Hello ladies! I do not have a technical confirmed pregnancy BUT I know I am, this is my 2nd and I am soooo naseaus and exhausted, the cravings have begun and so have the aversions, I've got a little colostrom...the whole 9 yards.

What I am wondering is have any of you had false negatives in your first tri? With my now 7 year old, I tested on a Monday and it was neg and then tested that Friday and it was positive, they assumed I was only 5 or 6 weeks because of the first day of my last but when I gave birth 4 weeks early to a perfectly healthly little girl they realized they were off the whole entire pregnancy and I was really about 9 or 10 weeks when I got my first positive....I know I am about 7 weeks right now (I keep track of everything) and it all lines of perfectly with the date of conception so I have no doubts...I just want it confirmed and to know I'm not the only one that's experienced this...I have a blood test scheduled for tomorrow...

Thank you for reading!

    LOL!!
  • No, if I had passed the expected time for my luteal phase to last, a negative pregnancy test always equaled not pregnant for me.

When was the last time you tested and what was the result?

Also being nauseous, exhausted, having cravings and aversions, and expressing some colostrum sound like maybe the first, eh, 3/4 of a yard to pregnancy to me.  Especially if you have seen a negative pregnancy test in the last 48 hours or less.

  • No I'm pretty sure if you were that far along you would be able to turn a test at, 7 wks you should have an HCG level of 7,650-229,000 a pregnancy test has a sensitivity of 25mIu. I wish you the best of luck though

    No. To all of this.

If pee sticks worked the first time, they would work this time. There is no reason for you to get pricey blood work done. You aren't pregnant.

This.  Why don't you just take another pee test in a few days like you did with your first?

  • I'm going to make a guess and say that you're not pregnant, and if you are, you're not 7 weeks pregnant.  There isn't a pregnancy test in the world that wouldn't pick up on that amount of hormones.

  • When you say you "keep track of everything", do you mean you were charting/temping and know exactly when you ovulated, and that you ovulated 5 week ago?   Because unless you know when you ovulated, and that was more than about 14-15 days ago, then you have no reason to expect that you should be pregnant or get a positive on a pregnancy test (blood or urine).

Having said that, most gynecologists can give you something to "jump start" your period if it's been a really long cycle and you're not pregnant.   Most will wait until your cycle's been at least 60 days long (yours sounds like it's been maybe 50 days?).   I would imagine they would want to do their own test to confirm that you're not pregnant before jump-starting your period, so I don't see the harm in a blood test.

Please realize that false negatives are really really rare.  I'd suspect that your pregnancy with your daughter was in fact dated correctly, and she was just early (and blessedly healthy).  Her arriving four weeks early doesn't mean that your first few tests were false negatives.  Dating ultrasounds are surprisingly accurate even if all babes don't gestate for the same amount of time.

  • Sorry sugar, it doesn't sound like you're pregnant. Please don't waste your or your doctor's time with a blood test until you've gone 60 days without a period or a positive HPT.

  • I think it's just awful the women on here who are so negative about false negatives. You could at least give her some hope. It is possible. With mt first two pregnancies which ended in miscarriage i tested positive at 9dpo. With this pregnancy I tested daily (out of control I know but hey that's what wondfos are for right?) I did not test positive until after six weeks pregnant and at nine weeks I have a perfectly healthy pregnancy measuring 9 weeks.

  • Having a baby 4 weeks early does not mean your dates were off. Sometimes babies just come early!

It would be impossible for you to be 7 weeks pregnant and not have a positive test. The heart starts beating between weeks 5-6 and your HCG levels would have to be well over 25000 for it to be a healthy pregnancy. Most HPTs turn positive with HCG levels of 6-100.

I'm not saying you are not pregnant. I also get pg symptoms 5-7 days before I get a positive test, but then I'm only 4 weeks pg, not 7.

So, hopefully you will get a positive test in the next few days.

  • If you were saying you were 2 weeks past O,I might say,"Eh, it is possible. " I felt strongly I was pregnant before getting a positive hpt and got negatives before positives. However, this was even before my missed period and I got a bfp on an hpt within a couple of days of getting the symptoms. 7 weeks. I think that is pretty unlikely unless you got a bum set of hpts or something.

I bet she didn't know how to read an hpt.

My guess is that your coworker probably was calling them negative because the test line probably never got as dark as the control line...which is true of some tests.

Or, she tested too early or too late in her pregnancy. Very rarely, when a woman is past her 1st tri, she will not test positive.

  • OP, is this you?

(kidding, just reminded me of it. So entertaining!)
I love that she has no money to go to a doctor, so the best suggestion (according to one person) is call 911 and go to the ER.

    So.Much.Stupid.

ETA: And thank you for that stupid. It is highly entertaining.

Wow. You did NOT read the original post. NO WHERE does she mention money. She actually says she will be going to the doctors the following day. I said she should go to the doctors, just like a coworker of mines did when she went through a similar experience. Again, no ER no 911.

PS. Not that it will affect you in anyway shape or form, I flagged your comment for calling people stupid.  Troll away ladies.

Except she didn't call anyone here stupid...

She was talking about the baby center link. Not this thread. Major reading comprehension fail on your part.

You can reverse the flag by "loving" the post. I'd strongly advise that you do so in addition to reading more carefully.

It is believable that if your two negatives were early, your O date was a little later than you thought, your LO implanted really late, you were not using a very sensitive hpt or some combination of the aforementioned that a person could not get a bfp until 5.5 weeks.

But by "7 weeks," the OP should be getting a bfp on a HPT unless she didn't O until day 37+ of her cycle.  But if she had a really late O date, she wouldn't really be 7 weeks pregnant then and her symptoms wouldn't be pregnancy symptoms.

Really, though, a blood test will clear this up.

OP- If you still think you are pregnant, do what numerous PP's above have suggested. Go get a beta Hcg blood test.
