FIL axed name

DS is Reed Alden after my dad and uncle. DS2 was going to be Robert Paul after FIL. FIL told us he doesn't want the baby to be named after him. I loved how Reed and Bobby sounded together as a sibset but now I'm at square one.

My husband is useless, his first choice is Arthur because he likes the story of King Arthur (I said a kid named Round Table would get beat up less on the playground than a kid named Arthur). His second choice was Walker which isn't bad except my husband is a former profession baseball pitcher. He doesn't see the irony in naming a future pitcher Walker.

My names he's vetoed are
Noah (too biblical)
Tristan (played against one and hated him)
Hunter (live near a town with that in its name)
William (no idea, just vetoed)

We both like Aiden but don't want a name that popular. You can see I need help. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

It's weird that your FIL doesn't want your LO named after him.

That being said-- is Robert Paul his (your FIL's) first and middle name?  If yes, can you pick a different middle name?  This way the baby won't be named "after" him if you just really like the name Robert.

Anyway, other names that I think sould good with Reed:

Graham

Grant

Trent

Vaughn

Bennett

Orson

Heath

Quinn

What about Archer (instead of Arthur). Reed & Archie is cute.

No Robert is just FIL's name. Paul is after FIL's step father who raised him. That will probably stay as MN

In that case, if you really are loving Robert, can't you just tell your FIL that you and your H simply love the name and that's what you have decided to use?

I agree, name your child what you want. Or you can always call him Bobby as a NN, it doesn't HAVE to flow from his given name.

 

But if you need to look elsewhere, maybe look at some of the other knights of the round table for inspiration? Like Lance, Lionel, Edward, Fergus, and Gareth. Would Liam instead of William work?

Lance he said no because of the nysnc guy. I love Bennett but BIL is a Benjamin and DH doesn't want it that close. I think FIL doesn't want his name used because he may be named after his biological father who I know left the family. I don't think he wants anyone he loves to be named after someone he hates. DH's other grandfather is Robert too so I can't pull from there. I think the world of my FIL and Id love my child to be named after him. But I respect the man enough to honor his request.

It's your baby, you get to name him.  I say stick with Robert.  I do love Arthur though, I'm with your husband on that.

I really like your first choice, so it's a shame your FIL vetoed it. Stay away from Aiden, just so overdone. A pp suggested graham and I really like that with your other son's name.

Seriously! How did I have to scroll through like a dozen comments before someone pointed out that nonsense?!

ETA: I love Arthur, and I like Walker. Just because your husband is a professional pitcher doesn't mean your son will be a pitcher, too. It doesn't even mean he'll like baseball, or sports. Seriously, don't put that on a child. He's not even born yet!

I like this suggestion of Archer/Archie, but I have to say, I see nothing wrong with Arthur/Artie... It's cute for a kid and ages well. I don't see it as a name a kid will get teased for.

I guess Im in the minority with the opinion that if my FIL was rude enough to throw it away that my kid would not be named after him at all... in any way. 

 

My husband didnt want our named after him (DH's FF as LO's MN) because he was still alive and didnt need to be remembered.
