NBR: home hair color disaster!

Soooo I've dyed my hair a medium brown shade for about the past 4 years. I decided to try and lighten it back to my original blonde, since my roots are growing in so fast these days. Well the top of my head is now BLEACH blonde, and the rest is just orangish! Awful! Anyone out there with experience in this? Help! TIA

  • No experience... I would suggest getting yourself to a hairdresser ASAP though!

  • Color does not remove color. You would have have the old color removed by either bleach or a color remover. Color remover doesn't work very well on old color.

I would not suggest doing it yourself. Also, this will be a little more expensive because you are wading into color correction territory.

  • Oh no! I've heard that pregnancy can do weird ass things to your hair when it's dyed. I would definitely go see someone to have it fixed, I wouldn't dye it again yourself.

  • Oh no!!!  Yea - my hair became MUCH more resistant to color after my first pregnancy!  Get to a hairdresser ASAP!!!

  • I would go to a salon. Color doesn't lift color. Brown turns orange before it goes blonde and brown hair dye will take a little longer. I'm guessing your roots are what's super blonde? Because there was no dye there. The color correction process would depend on what you're going for. You can dye it to a color darker than the shade of orange or you can bleach out the orange and go really blonde. If its too blonde for you, they can add in lowlights.

  • I also think you should go to a hair dresser. You might even consider doing a demi color (washes out in 6 weeks) with your hair dresser. I do this, it is not damaging on the hair, is cheaper than a permanent color, and can help you grow your natural color out. Good luck!

  • I ventured down that road freshman year of school. I dyed my hair jet black and decided to try bleach it so I could get to a more natural color on myself. After the first box of bleach, my roots (which was like 6 inches of non-black hair) were platinum ... the rest of my hair was some nasty orange color. Being the broke student I was, I went out and bought another box of bleach to try get rid of the orange.

Let's just say I ended up chopping my hair off because of the damage I did. It was BAD!

So like pps have suggested, get to a salon to get it fixed.

  • Thanks ladies, I figured I'd have to hit a salon :-/ this is what I get for trying to be cheap lol

  • You can't remove that since it has bleached the hair, but you can deposit color by dying it again (but darker). I almost always dye my own hair unless I get highlights. I got highlights for sunmer but plan on dying dark again after vaca next week. I always use a semi permanent so that my hair fades out rather than grows out. Good luck!
