Let's talk names

So we may or may not have names for our boys.  One is Luca (this one is for sure) and the other we finally agreed on is Liam.  I love the name Liam, HOWEVER, I am kind of weird about naming them something that is super duper popular and Liam is #6 on the social security website!  Ugh!!!!!  I knew it was gaining popularity, but geez.

Anyway, we are stumped on another name.  My husband doesn't like anything I suggest and I'm tired of looking.  Here's a little background:  My husband is Italian and we like the idea of italian names, but Luca seems to be the only one that goes with our last name.  Our last name ends in an "o", so I am trying to avoid first names that end in "o".  I haven't found any other one that I like enough to name my child.  We also both tend to agree on biblical names, such a Elijah, Isaiah, Jonah, etc....but they are all super popular!  Names I personally like and the husband doesn't is Beckett, Sawyer, Micah, Braxton, etc....I am way more easy to please.  :)

Oh and Frederick will be a middle name for one and possibly Giovanni for the other (both family names)

So just for fun, what are your favorite (non super popular) boy names?

TIA!

Re: Let's talk names

  • this is a daily debate in our house.  we cannot agree on hardly anything.  I think we settled on Cole for one of the boys, but are not in agreement on the other.  Middle names are a different thing entirely.  I love Noah, Nicholas, Drew, and Chase.  Hubby doesn't have suggestions, just knows what he doesn't like lol.  I think we are both considering Jack for the 2nd boy's name but haven't talked him into that.  I really would love two little boys named Cole and Chase but he is really against Chase.  We also aren't telling anyone our names (obviously what goes on the Bump stays on the Bump lol) so it's hard to get opinions.

  • Cole is cute.  That's my nephew's name!  I forgot that one of our names in the running is Tristan.  This is DH's middle name, but I just can't decide if I love it.  I actually liked it for a girl.

I haven't told many people names either.  I am sick of hearing their opinion!  (Particularly my mother!)

  • Love Sawyer! Liam is our little guys middle name, it is very popular but it's a family name to us.

Cole & Chase are my twin nephews names.

Just googled and my goodness finding an Italian male name that doesn't end with O is hard.  Is your DH okay with going outside of the Italian heritage?

    So...I'm no help.

  • I can't be of any help on the name front as DH and I tend to not agree either and it seems like most everything is popular these days, but wanted to say that I LOVE Luca and best of luck on your decision! Naming one is hard enough so I can't imagine your dilemma trying to name two! :)

  • I think it's way harder to name a baby when you already have one. Bc you really know that you are naming a PERSON! Haha! Anyway, we wanted to use family names so it really limited us. We had a girl name picked out and I am kinda glad this ones a boy bc Emma is so popular right now! Liam is really popular around here too. Owen is one of 2 in his play school class, his name was # 16 on the boy list :/ I am horrible with coming us with names! GL!

  • I always said that I would stay away from super popular names when it came to naming my own child and now I'm having to eat my words.  DH and I just love Sophia for a girl and it's, like, the number 1 name right now.  We don't love anything else as much and i don't want to give my baby a name that I don't adore just because it is popular.  So, I decided that if LO is a girl, we are just going to go with what we love.  If LO is a boy we are okay, he will be Samuel, which has picked up in popularity lately but isn't in the top 10.  DH loves the name Noah for a boy and has since he was in high school.  It's crazy how popular it is right now.  If we have another baby and it's a second boy we are going to go with Noah because DH loves it so much.  FWIW, I love Liam.  Go with what you love.

  • Thanks! I love both names so much. I just cringe everytime I hear a liam. I've had two people on fb (not any close friends) recently announce they were naming their boys liam! Lucky for me, I'm due first! Haha!! ;) This is why I won't be announcing any names publicly until they are here! Btw...I also love Noah. Always have! And it is insanely popular! I know so many of them!

  • I love Luca and Liam!! I think the two names flow together too. Don't worry about how popular Liam is. If you love it and the hubby agrees then go for it! We are having a girl and pretty sure we're naming her Hana. (Not Hannah) I am half Korean and DH is half Japanese. In Korean it means the number 1 but is actually a name people give their child as well. (My brother joked "is it like naming your baby UNO?" Haha. It is not like UNO!) Being that this is our first baby that makes sense. In Japanese it means flower and our favorite place in the world is Maui (we go every year) and The Road to Hana is one of the most amazing places. Having this baby has been a journey so it kinda works for us.

  • I like Luca and Liam! But I know what you mean about popularity. My mom named my Jessica when she had never seen another Jessica and then the following year it exploded. I can't say it's been a problem for me, though. I also like Anton for an Italian name that doesn't end in O. :) DH keeps telling me that we should name a boy Maximus or something like that - and if it's twins, Luke and Leia - and that's actually an improvement! My mom keeps coming up with the weirdest things and texting them to us. She's such a hippie - all objects! Like, last week she texted me "Chain" ?!what?! I told her she was horrible at picking out names! For a girl, so far we like Lillian. It was my DH's grandma's name, and our last name is Fields, so she'd be Lilli Fields. :) Maybe some of my moms hippiness rubbed off on me.

I actually like Giovanni, but I just can't decide if I like it enough. I don't even know if dh likes it enough and it's a family name on his side. His dad and grandfather are both Giovannis and they go by john. I really don't like the name john...so I would also worry what his nickname would be (if someone were to try and shorten it)

Gio?  Vanni?  I think as long as you start a nickname before anyone else has the chance, you can usually decide that, too.
