DDS:Dentist Dizzy Spell?

hello fellow MTB! I'm a FTM and today I had a scheduled teeth cleaning. I got to the dentist and got in the chair and everything was going as expected. About 5 minutes into the cleaning, I started to have shortness of breath. I finally asked the dental hygienist if I could sit up. I then felt very dizzy, light headed and my vision was blurred. Has anyone experienced this? I thought maybe it was from the way I was lying in the chair, just straight on my back? I haven't had any spells like this yet. Wondering if I should be concerned? Call my doctor? It only lasted a few minutes and now I'm fine. Just looking for some feedback. Thanks!

Re: DDS:Dentist Dizzy Spell?

  • Was it early in the morning? My blood pressure is very low to begin with right now in this pregnancy (90s/60s) and extra low in the morning before I've had 2 or 3 small meals. That, plus lying on your back could have cut off a bit of circulation, lowering your blood pressure even further and causing that to happen. If it cleared up when you sat up and got your blood flow back to normal and if it doesn't happen again, I personally wouldn't call the dr but maybe mention it next time you go in? That said I don't know your medical history / other issues and I'm not a doctor. So as I always say and think to myself - if you're worried, call! It won't hurt and that's what they're there for. Hope you're feeling better!

  • Thank you for the quick response! This was at about noon today. I had a banana and yogurt for breakfast. I haven't had any issues thus far and my blood pressure has been good. So i'm thinking it was just from lying on my back like that. But i'm going to call the doctor anyway. Thanks again! This helped!
