Hypogonadtropic Ganadism???!

Anyone????

First, sorry I've been MIA. I have not had my "head in the game" sorta speak. Trying to focus on other things and not constant infertility. But, with FET scheduled for next week, I guess it's time to focus ;)

Anyways, husband got a call from Dr he's been seeing for his hamstring that's been giving him lots of soreness over and over again over last year. They did blood work to get full picture. Called him on Friday & said he has Hypogonadtropic gonadism. They wanted him to "do his research" on it, then schedule appt to discuss.

WTF?!? Doesn't this dr know google is worst thing to do?!

Anyone's DH have this? Any insight?

Re: Hypogonadtropic Ganadism???!

  •  general term for low hormone production.... specifically in our case low T ( although my husbands sperm count is not affected at this point).  If it is low T make sure he is not treated with the gels.  It will kill his sperm.  Luckily  I knew this and stopped this before my husband used it. PCPs love to hand that stuff out. He should first be referred to a urologist who specializes in male fertility. ( not all do) The urologists will make sure there isn't anything physically wrong in the testes etc... blockage etc...   They will run more test if nothing physical is found and if it is hormonal sometimes lifestyle change, vitamins and even clomid could help.   If it is in the pituitary gland than he should then be referred to  an endocronologist who deals with these issues.

Pm if you need more info....   Good luck!

  • Thanks so much for the response!! Not exactly sure what we're dealing with at this point. He has appt next Monday to go over b/w. My RE said though that it obviously isn't affecting sperm at this point, his numbers were fantastic for our fresh June IVF & fortunately got decent frozen embryos from that cycle. Hoping its not pituitary related, as surgery for him is poor option! (He has a blood clotting disorder which makes surgery quite an ordeal!)

  • I don't really know anything about hypogonadtropic ganadism...and don't even really know how to pronounce it, but my DH is being put on FSH, which apparently has been approved for men with hypo. ganad. to improve sperm quality (thanks to @thosethreewords for that info). That said, I am still not sure what FSH does in men exactly or if my DH even has hypo. ganad., because our issues are chromosomal. It is strange that this is popping up now for you since you say that sperm count is not an issue, but I guess it is good to rule everything out. Weird that the Dr. told him to Google it, though. I feel like that is the worst advice to give a patient. I would interested to hear if you learn anything more anout hypo. ganad., because I really don't have much clue about what it means.
