Repeating Names

I know this is probably a personal opinion, but I'm looking for opinions even if they are all different. We currently have 2 boy names picked out, but DH seems to really prefer one over the other. I also agree that I do like the name. However the problem that I'm struggling with is a college friend of mine had a baby about a year ago chose this name. We don't see each other frequently (maybe only 2-3 times a year). What do you think of using the same first name?

I personally think that you should use the name you want, seeing someone a few times a year shouldn't stop you.  I think the only time I would rethink a name would be if my own sibling used it since that would have a much larger impact.

That is totally fine, given the relationship. If it was your nephew that you babysit 5 days a week, I'd suggest you reconsider.

Use the name you want -- and if she comments or if you want to preemptively tell her about it before she comments just message her and tell her why the name is meaningful to you etc.  ... but you're really not obligated to say anything.

I am going through the same situation!   We are not great friends, although have similar friends and live in the same town.  We are going to spell out name differently then how she did with her son.  And its a greek name...and we are greek, she is not.  So she shouldnt be too surprised I think....  We'll see.  I just dont feel the same way about any other names.  Hopefully its not a problem.  I think you should stick with the name you want, we are too

Thanks ladies! That's how I was leaning, but didn't want to be totally selfish if I was missing something.

If it were me I would go with the name. You don't see her often and she is not immediate family. I'm sure someone she knows or is fiends with named their child the same name. Do what makes you happy. You have I live with it for the rest of your life.
