We have a plan!
We had an appt. with our RE today. I had at least two dozen questions for him, and he very patiently answered them all. I am excited to have a plan, though I realize that it is ridiculous to already get excited for a cycle which is three months away. DH has to be on FSH for at least three months, so I guess there is no way around it. (Why does sperm production have to take so darn long?!

)
I am trying to restrain myself from getting too excited, because I know that chances of it working the first time around are low, but it's really hard!
Our RE says that we have about a 20% chance with each embryo, so 40%. I feel like this seems pretty low and asked about that, but he was skeptical of higher numbers, saying that it is difficult to say what exactly is being calculated. He also said that they aim for 8 to 12 eggs with 15 eggs being the max and he thinks we would have about 50% fertilitzation. Does this sound right you all? I know things are done a little differently here and people tend to be more cautious/reserved/pessimistic, but it just seemed really low.
The RE was nice enough to indulge my neuroses and agreed that we would freeze some of DH sperm just in case, even though he doesn't think that it is all that worthwhile since there are so few, and also agreed that I would have the check-up ultrasound/mock transfer next week before DH starts hormone treatments. I guess I am being paranoid, but I have had such bad luck in the past couple of years that I don't want to wait until a couple weeks before I start stims see whether or not everything is anatomically okay on my side. I never really been one to like surprises (good or bad) and I certainly don't want a surprise like, "Oh, your uterus is shaped wrong" or something right before we are to get started.
It's funny, because I was a little down after the appointment, feeling like the RE didn't really have all that much positive to say, but DH got exactly the opposite message, saying afterwards that it was great to see that the RE is so hopeful. I am going to chalk it up to cultural/language differences and hope that DH (who is from here) correctly sensed a optimistic subtext, which I just missed altogether.

Re: Let's get this show on the road...in December.
Glad you have a plan and December will be here before you know it! I'm going in today for my plan and nervous that my RE might want to wait until Nov/Dec to build up my lining (I have lining issues). Yes it sucks to wait that long, but the RE knows what is best and with my dealing with IVF, time does fly and you will be cycling before you know it.
50% fertilization rate I would say is normal, although it varies from everyone's experience. My rate was only 22%, but I had 37 eggs, so still came away with 8 fertilized, 4 making it to freeze (no frest transfer due to OHSS).
Good luck!!
