Nerves & contractions?

Anyone get SOOOO nervous about something that it started contractions?

I am a horrible public speaker and I had to stand up in church last night to do the 1st and 2nd readings along with the general intercession in both English and French. I was SO nervous I was dripping sweat (church was so hot) and as I start reading I felt like I was going to either faint or start crying for some reason or throw up but I got through it, I felt like I could hardly breathe and all of a sudden paiiiiinnnnsss in my lower belly! Once I sat back down after each reading I would get a hot flash and pains in my belly! Is it possible that being overly nervous about something could cause contractions?!

Just curious, cause my family was telling me not to be so nervous cause I'd start my labour lol! We were obviously kidding about it because my whole family was in town from hours away for the wedding so they thought the idea of me going into labour would be fun. Once I actually starting feeling those pains I was thinking "shit! Not the time for it to happen!!" Thankfully baby stayed put and I haven't had any more pains but BH for sure the last 2 days. On another note im officially 37 weeks and so excited!

Re: Nerves & contractions?

  • I have uterine irritability so a lot of things cause contractions for me, but being nervous is definitely one of he leading reasons!

  • Same here. If a car cuts me off on the road or I am watching a really intense part of a soccer game I can get contractions. It seems be extreme emotions that are startling or not normal.

  • So strange and baby can definitely sense the change in emotions because as I would get more and more nervous, she would move a ton, and she doesn't usually move that often. And she got crazy hiccups as I felt I was gonna pass out up in front of everyone! Not sure if that's related but wow funny how our bodies work to stress and nerves.
