  • 1) What is your hobby? (I'm looking for things other than watching TV/movies) I love to knit. I mostly do scarves, but I've done a few baby blankets and some hats (I didn't like the hats).

    2) Is there a reason you chose it?
I don't like doing just 1 thing, and I tend to watch a lot of movies, so I wanted something to keep my hands busy. My mom weaves as her hobby, and since I don't have space for a loom, I took up knitting. (I've tried using her loom, but it just wasn't for me) My maternal family has always done well with fibers (great-grandma did everything but weaving- embroidery, tatting, knitting, crochet, sewing clothes).

  • 1) What is your hobby? Crafting (knitting, sewing, painting, ... basically everything but crocheting.)

    2) Is there a reason you chose it? I am a planner/doer. If I do not have a project to work on I get really anxious. I think I have a mild anxiety disorder (it was suggested when I was a teen) but I have found that crafting while listening to audio books helps calm me down.

  • I love to craft.  Especially refurbishing furniture.  I'm in the process of painting/distressing our cherry bedroom set to a country white/shabby chic looking set...its coming out so great!

I think I probably got into it because I loved being in the shop with my dad growing up and playing with tools...then when I became an OR nurse I loved scrubbing in on ortho surgeries because you get to use drills and hammers and stuff :)
Awesome! I am in my first attempt at doing the same with some oak furniture. What paint color/brand did you choose?

  • 1) What is your hobby?I knit a lot, read a lot, and dabble in photography.

    2) Is there a reason you chose it? I like to have something to do with my hands.  Knitting definitely fulfills that requirement.  I always need to be learning something so reading is a natural fit.  I kind of just bumped into the photography thing.

  • What is your hobby?
I'm a major bookworm, it's probably my most consistent habit because I've loved reading since I was very young. I also dabble in a few other hobbies (knitting, painting, drawing, writing, and trying to get into sewing) but haven't really passed the beginner stage in any of those

Is there a reason you chose it?
My family are all big readers so books have been a part of my life since I was old enough to be read to. As for the rest, my mom is very artistic and is an amazing quilter and knitter - she inspires me but also discourages me a little because I feel like nothing I do will be as beautiful as hers!
  • My true favorite things to do aside from the glorious mind-numbing of TV and the interwebs...I'd have to say is any outing with my DH and pup, used to love baking but haven't done much since my BFP, and reading.

  • I like baking, cooking, reading, and exercising.

I grew up in the middle of no where on a farm. I've been cooking since I was around seven and I've just learned to love it. I feel accomplished cooking good food for my family. I love to bake. I don't do it near as much as I like to because its just not very healthy. I love to read, but its hard to find time to do that. The love of reading probably came from boredom. I love to exercise just because it makes me feel better about myself. It's hard to be forced to cut back. It took a long time to love exercising. I would say a couple years, and its not the process I love, its the results.
  • 1. Hobbies are reading, Pinterest, and food.

    2. The reason? I'm awesome. No. Because I have no life besides my DS and DH.

It used to be video games. N64, PS2, etc. Now all we have is the wii and the wii SUCKS.
  • My favorite hobby is collecting sea glass and making crafts and jewelry with it. I have so much it's insane but I like to fill vases with it and decorate my place with it which looks nice. We had it in our wedding décor too.

My friend showed me how to find it years ago and I just loved finding these treasures.

  • Reading.

I love to read. I enjoy the stories and the worlds created by the authors.

I enjoy crafts. Knitting and crocheting but can only do straight lines. We have plenty of scarves in this house. I like to make seasonal things too. Wreathes for holidays.
I'm about to try reupholstering a glider for the baby's room

I started knitting and crocheting in high school. I'd like to learn to sew.
  • Reading is my main hobby.  My mother is forcing me to learn how to sew.  I'm sure I'll appreciate that later but I really hate it right now.

I've been a voracious reader since I was in elementary school and often have multiple books going.

  • 1) What is your hobby? (I'm looking for things other than watching TV/movies). I love cooking. For a while I was super into couponing but now that they don't double coupons in my County, it's not as much fun. I love to entertain and make food themed parties. For example, I host an Academy Award dinner and make a different course with themed food for each best picture nominee. I also make tv themed parties, all the food and drinks will be themed for a each character in the show. 2) Is there a reason you chose it? I grew up with all TV dinners so I think I wanted a different way of life for me and my family. I really got into since living on my own in college. I would cook/bake for special occasions with my grandma and have wonderful memories with her in the kitchen. My mom, not so much :). Funny enough, my dad is a chef but I don't have a relationship with him so maybe it's my way of connecting sub-consciously. Not sure. Planning is so fun for me and I love how creative my guests think I am for my themed parties.

  • 1. Hobbies - There's tons of things I enjoy doing in my spare time, but sewing and video games are my top two.

    2. Reasons - My mom learned how to sew when she was 9, she taught me when I was 9. I just love all the different things you can create, and how you can use them to personalize your wardrobe, accessories, house, etc.

Video games - I lived in a village for almost half my life (less than 100 people lived there) and there wasn't much to do as none of my friends lived close. My brother used to play a lot, and I always wanted to hang out with him (I was probably such an annoying little sister) so we used to play video games together. Similar reason why I loved sewing and crafts growing up - wasn't much else to do by yourself. I married a guy who loves VG as well and my hobby got more intense! :D

The last part makes me very sad! Wii DOES suck! :( I own many consoles (multiples of a couple), and Wii will probably never be one of them - either generation.

  • I love to craft - redoing furniture, paper crafts, sewing, painting, DIY home decor, etc.
I like doing it because my mom has been crafty my whole life, and I always enjoyed participating. It's therapeutic and my getaway.

I was in a town of 224 people. We had one convenience store. I lived on my N64 and PS2. My PS2 is in the garage because the cd holder thingy won't slide back in and shut back. All games I have left to sell is devil may cry 1-3 boxed set. I already sold the dark alliance, champions of norath, and Lord knows what else. All the Wii games are childish. My husband wanted it. I wanted the xbox360 live. Obviously he won. I'm hoping we get one for Christmas because he regrets the crap out of it.
  • I have a few hobbies. I do triathlons, I research local history, and I am a violinist. I chose triathlons as a way to get in shape when I hit my 20s and my metabolism slowed way down. I have been a history nut since 3rd grade, and I have played the violin all my life!

    Crafting and photography.

    2. Is there a reason you chose it?
Because apparently, I'm cheap, and if I see it on Pinterest, I believe I can make it myself; and I love spending my money on lenses, memory cards, and shit like Lightroom, and spending hours after DS goes to bed post-processing pictures of all my friends/family for the fun of it.

  • 1) What is your hobby?

I use to love reading, baking, girl scouts and so much more, but since I became pregnant I have become lazy and even reading a book seems hard and there is just no way I am standing that long in the kitchen after standing on my feet all day at work.

    2) Is there a reason you chose it?

Reading is my escape from everything....I can read a "good" series in a matter of days.  Baking...well thats cause I have a horrible sweet tooth =) and Girl Scouts is because I love being able to spend time with these girls and teaching them something they arent ever going to get in school.  I also volunteer on the girl scout team for my city, its wonderful to get to spend time with so many other great inspiring woman....who usually laugh at me since I am such a city girl who likes boxed crafts....lol!

  • 1) What is your hobby? (I'm looking for things other than watching TV/movies): I read, sew and get crafty.

    2) Is there a reason you chose it?:  I've always been a big reader from a young age. I was shy so it was something I could do alone. Lol.  The sewing was heavily influenced by my mom. She has sewn my whole life and I loved watching her take fabric and make it into something. It was also part of my major in college.  The crafty is just a spin off of my creativeness with sewing. I dabble a little bit in scrapbooking, painting and other things.

  • Reading, which is something I've always loved. I think I keep with it because its one of very few things I can lose myself in/completely focus on despite my anxieties. Painting, charcoal drawing, and photography I've also been interested in for a long time, but in college I really developed a love for them. The fine arts are focused around figure studies and my fascination with the human body and my relationship with my own. Photography is based on the exploration of abandoned places and the relationship with my best friend.

  • 1) What is your hobby? (I'm looking for things other than watching TV/movies)
I play 3 different instruments (some better then others) as well as teach them, I LOVE to quilt, cross stitch and read a good book.  I'm usually too cheap to buy books, and I find it's hard to find a book in the library by browsing.  If someone recommends something to me I'll probably pick it up.  I usually go through a sewing phase, then a reading phase, then a cross stitch phase, etc.  I also enjoy digital scrap booking and composing music, but I don't get around to those too much.

    2) Is there a reason you chose it?
Music just came naturally. When I was young I'd sit behind the organ and pick out the tunes I'd learned in school that day until I had them perfect.  It was only natural I had lessons.   From there I also picked up piano and flute.  I took flute the furthest, but music was my way of dealing with everything going on in my life even tho I didn't realize it at the time.  Quilting I didn't pick up until I was out of school, one of my friends convinced my to try it and I was hooked!  Cross stitch I picked up when I was pregnant with DD and had my mat leave start 5 weeks before I was due.

    Pheew that ended up long!

  • 1) I actually have a few so I hope that it is okay if I post more than 1. My main hobbies are reading (anything and everything) and I do a lot of crafting (knitting, scrapbooking, floral arranging, etc.)

    2) I chose these hobbies mainly because they are things that I enjoy doing. I have always loved to read and always owned a lot of books. Scrapbooking got started because we take a lot of photos and I wanted a pretty and creative way of displaying them. Knitting I only started recently after hearing so many people say great things about it and seeing things on Pinterest that I would like to make lol

  • I have been sewing since the age of 4. I always loved it. I do mostly little girl clothes now :)

I also did knitting (I love making baby hats). But I am having a hard time knitting with a toddler.

And I love books. I just got "The Twelve" by Justin Cronin. SO EXCITED

I love paper crafting! I make cards and party decorations/favors. I am not a very good scrapbooker though. I love feeling like I've made something unique and completely on my own. And I love being able to customize and create some pretty cool party décor.

I also love baking, especially cupcakes. I make fancy cupcakes for all different occasions and even have a couple of customers! I started making them because I wanted a good cupcake and couldn't find one anywhere near us. Now I love making them for other people to enjoy.

  • I used to draw and could spent 10 minutes drawing a picture and ages shading and working with it. art is very calming to me but for the longest time unless someone puts something in front of me, I'm not really motivated or inspired to do it. I got into photography in college. I was taking a class and was always interested in it but during the time I was taking the class, I experienced one of the biggest losses (I grew up at my grampa's feet and I had to watch him suffer until he passed) and I ended up photo-journaling everything I felt.  I find myself going back to it when I'm upset and celebrating with it when everything's going well. I guess I also just cherish the memories a little bit more since then too. And now my DSLR won't be my only baby anymore :)

I'm also a pinterest addict and I wish I had more time for productive things like reading. I might compile a reading list for maternity leave but I'm sure once the baby comes reading goes back out the window...
