Your choice of bottle for those that are Mommy's!

I know it's super early but I've been doing lots of reading. Just wondering what you preferred. I don't think I'll be able to breast feed considering I had a breast reduction in June 2012. Nipple was completely removed. Therefore, doc already stated it's 50/50 but in my case most likely not.

Re: Your choice of bottle for those that are Mommy's!

  • I love Avent bottles.
    Easy to clean

  • I used Avent bottles. I don't recall why I chose them in the first place, and they worked for DD (who was bf'd with occasional bottle) so I'll replace the nipples and use them again. But you may want to buy just a couple of one kind at first, or a couple different kinds, to find what works for your baby before you buy a big stash. I think I lucked out with DD and some babies are really picky about bottles.

  • Also, it's not a bad idea to start keeping an eye out for good deals. I think I bought all my bottles at BRU for BOGO free.

  • I was leaning towards Avent. But was curious what others were using. I'm all about easy to clean! Especially with my OCD! LOL
  • What's BOGO? Sorry I'm not hip to the lingo...lol
  • We ended up with Dr Brown bottles. DS was so picky about the bottle and we tried pretty much every one of them. The Dr Brown ones have a lot of pieces but they really were not bad to clean. I'm really hoping this one likes them because the thought of trying to find a bottle again.... Ugh.

Buy One Get One. So buy one get one free. Essentially half price.

Was your baby picky about pacifiers aswell??? The only one ds would take for the longest time was the dr browns ones aswell.
  • I picked out Playtex vent-Aire(I think that's what they are called.) DS wouldn't drink from them. After we tried a few, we ended up with Avent.

  • I used Ventaire with my DD, but this time I'll look into Dr Browns. She didn't hold her bottle up until she was 6 mo old, and it was tiring! With Doc Browns, it has the straw, so they don't need to hold it up. :-) plus Ventaire was a bitch to clean since we didn't have a dishwasher (we do now! Yay!). They are 5 piece bottles - ugh. (Or they were... That was almost 7 years ago!)
  • We used Dr. Browns back in the day with my first two. This time I want to bf so I'm looking into more bf friendly bottles.

He never would take the pacifier. We tried all of those too. He's just super stubborn ;)

  • Used Tommy Tippee bottles and the only binkie she'd take are Avent Soothie ones
  • We used Tommy Tippy because we were breast feeding and are supposed to be shaped like a breast.

Oh your so lucky! Im trying to break ds from his with no luck. The kids super attached to his paci. Hes 16 months now, but I dont want him to be 2 or 3 and still needing a paci.
  • I started with Avent which was great for a first time mom, they're easy. But ultimately we ended up on Dr. Browns, they have a few more pieces but they aren't necessarily any harder to clean. It was worth it though, DS had trouble with gas that would put him into fits of pain. So worth cleaning extra parts... It's probably going to end up depending on your baby.
  • We used the Born Free. Supposedly they are closest to human nipple and I would both nurse alot and pump and feed with bottle and she didn't really seem to have a preference either way (bottle or breast) so I consider that a success :) I will be using the born free again. We tried the Dr. Browns and my DD just did not like them.

  • I tried the Lansinoh, avent and Playtex vent air. Like the Lansinoh nipples the best and we were able to use them with the avent bottle so that's what we did.

  • I'm hoping to use playtex drop ins, hand me downs from family.
  • I loved Como Tomo bottles for my son. They are so easy to clean, and were the only bottles my son would take. They also are anti-colic and really helped my son with his gas issues!
  • I also love the comotomo bottles.  They are a little pricey, but that was what worked best for DD.  So easy to clean,  anti-colic, and baby feeds from them like the breast so great if you will switch between bottle and breast.  I plan to use them again.

  • My daughter had acid reflux so we used Dr. Brown's. Loved them!
  • Tomee Tippee for us. The nipple seemed most like the actual breast to me, maybe for little one too. I wouldn't stock up on too many bottles until you know what your kiddo will like. We had to try a few before DD would stick with one.

  • Dr. Brown's- they are supposed to be best for the baby's tummy! We never had any problems!
  • I'm the first to say Medela Calma?  They are so awesome- great for baby cuz they have to suck to get the milk- mimics the breast.  Never had any gas issues.  Love em'.  I did BF, but you gotta use the bottle sometimes, and eventually when they start cow's milk. :)

  • Dr. Brown's here.  I understand the parts can be a pain, but don't people just put them in the dishwasher?  They make a special parts holder.

  • I used just plain old Medela bottles.  DD wasn't picky and they were the ones I registered for so it worked out!
  • We used Playtex Ventaire. We had lots of breastfeeding trouble in the beginning and it's what our pedi recommended for her that would still encourage bfing. It's what I plan to use this time too since I already have enough for at home and daycare. I will just get new nipples.

  • God what didn't we try... We used Dr Browns when she was tiny until she started refusing bottles completely. We tried Avent, Medela, Breastflow, Born Free. Around 9 mo, she'd take the Avent MAYBE if the stars aligned perfectly. At that point, we gave up and just gave her BM from a sippy if I was away from her. At least we never had to wean her off bottles...

  • Dr. Brown's! They were great! I will say that my son was exclusively FF so I don't know if these bottles are the best for babies who also breastfeed.
