Miley Cyrus

Thought I'd start a discussion about Miley, since she's just so ridiculous. She is the exact reason why I am terrified of LO's teenage years...only it's not just teenagers anymore. I heard two six year olds at the park singing her song. I hope they haven't seen the video. Anyways I know I can't stop LO from loving pop icons...let me tell you I loved me some Britney and spice girls, but really Miley?

I guess she just wants to prove she's all grown up. Which could have been handled with more class. And why does grinding on a married man indicate that you are grown up...where I come from that just indicates that you are a shkank. How do I explain to my daughter that although you'll get attention acting like that,it's not the kind of attention you want. Argh here's hoping she has stopped making music when LO is old enough to idolize her.

Re: Miley Cyrus

  • "...Miley, since she's just so rediculous." Ha.

It's awful that that's how she thinks she's going to gain popularity in the industry.

If I were Billy Ray I would be so embarassed.

  • Honestly, I think the best thing a parent can do is continually verbalize their moral expectations and explain why those are their expectations. Will it always work? No, but it will work a lot of the time.

At least that worked for me in many ways. My parents were very open about their expectations about sex, drugs, drinking etc and I followed what they said a lot of the time (not always but a lot of the time). My goal is to try to have an open line of communication with my kids. I'm hoping that if I'm open and honest with them, they will feel comfortable talking to me about the big stuff. Are they going to tell me everything? Of course not but hopefully I'll be able to steer them away from any major harm.

  • If it makes you feel better, my 15 yo DD thinks Miley is a skank too! If you raise them with good morals, and keep open lines of communication, they'll end up just fine! :)

nd yes I am dividing all female teen stars into LiLOs or TSwifts. Choose a side.

Love TSwift! (But sometimes the LiLo drama is so much fun!)

Do we need to start an Amanda Bynes tread too? Hot mess.

Sadly, there will always probably be a "Miley".

  • It looked a bit crude but no worse than other female artists. The only thing that made me cringe was the gestures with the hand. Nasty!

  • It seemed to me a desperate attempt to seem grown up and sexy. However it just made her seem like a bratty teenager that does things for shock value.

The difference between that and other female performances is that the others were choreographed and this just looked like a Miley skanky free for all. Also she seems like she has daddy issues.

I read this the other day, a friend posted it on FB, and thought it was really good. I think it's a Christian blog. I am not a religious person, so a few of his comments make me stabby, but liked the overall sentiment about adults being responsible for this and why we are so upset seeing Miley do it. And I think it's a great way to think of these things with our own kids.

I agreed that to me the foam finger stuff was nastier and more offensive than the twerking? And why is twerking a thing anyway? We used to just call it grinding. Pretty much the same thing.

She is bound and determined to shed her Disney/Hannah Montana image.  Ok Miley we get it.  You're a bad girl.

Amanda Bynes is mentally ill. I don't think talking shit on the mentally ill is ok personally.

I must not follow the news that closely anymore - wasn't aware that her psych eval said that she was mentally unstable. I would never joke over someone's mental health. Now I feel awful for all the things I've thought and said about her...
