Crunching and grunting?

Sorry, I don't know what a better title would be, but I'm looking for a little help... I always assumed this was from just being tired or startling while falling asleep, but now that we have diagnosed food allergies, blood in stool, and reflux, I am second guessing this just being normal baby behavior.

So, after swaddling M for a nap or bed, while rocking her (yep, we still rock to sleep, don't judge us ;) ) she will be happily falling asleep, eyes rolling back, sometimes even all the way to sleep, and then all of a sudden her eyes will open and she curls forward jnto as much of a fetal position I guess as she can swaddled, then unfolds, starts falling back asleep most of the time. Sometimes it happens once, sometimes 10 plus times. I just can't tell for sure if she is just overtired and fussy (never full on cries, but will cry a little sometimes) or if that is pain from reflux?

We aren't on any reflux meds... She is gaining well and is a "happy spitter". However after a bloody stool two weeks ago, we have removed dairy and soy from my diet. Good times. But that is a different story (unless it isn't and is related, which is why I am making this such a long post-sorry!)

I guess I mostly am curious if other babies curl up (or arch, although I know that is typically reflux) like this? Also, it doesn't matter if she just ate or ate 90 minutes ago... It has happened at both intervals.

Thanks for reading!
ETA- she isn't especially gassy as a baby, so it isn't related to a big toot coming :)

G does this, but he also has reflux and possible soy intolerance, so I guess that doesn't help you figure out if it's normal!

Interesting... Do you attribute it to the reflux or do you think it is tiredness?

Lexie does this and doesn't have gas or reflux issues. I think it's just a reaction to being swaddled- like the impulse is to wiggle out of it, but at the same time it's rather comfy.

C does this. Not usually when tired though, just randomly throughout the day...sometimes when nursing. She also has reflux and a possible soy/nut intolerance, but she is on meds for it. She is pretty gassy though, so I usually attribute it to that.

My LO does this also and she usually does it after all her feedings but she does have reflux so I just assumed it was the reflux. She doesn't take any meds for her reflux tho. We also swaddle and rock to sleep like you and as she's falling asleep she'll twitch, arch her back and sometimes make small noises. I have her 4mo app coming up so I'm going to question pedi about this because I've been wondering myself if it's normal or not because of her reflux.

Thanks, ladies! Sounds like it is relatively common (although so is reflux, I suppose!)
