Mild freak out

Ok ladies, I hit the 19 week mark yesterday, and still haven't felt any movement. At my OB appt two weeks ago, I was assured this was completely normal. Doppler picked up heartbeat of 157, and OB said she could hear LO moving, even though I couldn't feel it. A/S isn't until next Friday, and I have started to freak out a little. I have been researching anterior placenta and thinking this may be the cause. If so, would it be typical to be this far along and still not have felt anything?

Re: Mild freak out

  • My doc said normal timeframe for a FTM to feel movement is 18-22 weeks - so I would say you are just fine!

  • I'm almost at 21 weeks (tomorrow) and haven't felt a lot. You also might be feeling movement and not realizing it! I have felt little bubbles and tiny nudges that honestly don't feel that different than gas! I think you'll feel better once you have your a/s. I did! My advice until then: try to avoid Internet research. Nothing good seems to come of it when I do it!

  • I didn't feel anything until half way through 20 weeks. I have an anterior placenta. FTM.

  • Thank you ladies.

  • This is my third pregnancy, and I'm still hit and miss on movement. I can hear her moving around when I use the doppler, but that's about it. Hoping you start feeling more movement soon! My OB also told me it's normal to feel movement between 18-22 weeks, so I'm just guessing I'll feel more consistent movement in upcoming weeks.

  • I didn't feel anything until 20 weeks. And even then I questioned if it was gas bubbles or my tummy growling! Once u start feeling it... It will become more and more apparent!
  • I think you are totally fine. I started feeling around 19-20 weeks, and I have a posterior placenta. It took awhile for me to distinguish movements too because like pp said it felt a lot like gas in the beginning. It is still early on. Its frustrating though when you want to start feeling it and either baby or body is keeping you in suspense!
  • Saw my midwife at 20 weeks, and she said "you probably can't feel the baby yet, but you should in the next couple of weeks". A friend also felt hers for the first time at 30 weeks (anterior placenta).

The first movements feel like you are about to fart, like a wee pop. Then as they get stronger, it's like a goldfish swimming in a plastic bag of water, nudging the edge ever so slightly. Sometimes it feels a wee bit like hunger cramp, or anxiety flutters, or a muscle spasm.

    It won't be far away!
  • This is my second pregnancy and I have not felt this baby nearly as much as DD. I have not had my A/S yet, but am curious to see if I have an anterior placenta too.

  • I am a FTM and just had my A/S on Monday. I do have an anterior placenta and the doctor told me not to be surprised if I didn't begin feeling anything until 20-24 weeks (I'm 18 now). I think you're totally within the normal range even if you don't have an anterior placenta.

I'll be 20 weeks on Sunday and I haven't felt much. I've been feeling bubbles and random twitching (almost like a muscle spasm) but I'm a FTM so I'm not sure of it is the baby or just gas/my stomach stretching out. My Ob told me not to worry just yet (easier said than done, right?).

I had my freak out a couple of days ago. Totally normal. :)

  • I have been feeling very little movement, but when we went in for the u/s, the baby was moving NON. STOP. All I felt were the BIG movements, like being startled by whacking him/herself in the face (s/he jumped!) and really big kicks. Otherwise, I was amazed at how much the baby was moving, and I'm not feeling a thing.

Why should I be amazed by this? This is baby #4 for me! But, apparently, pregnancy-brain includes things like this for not remembering :)
