If you go to buy or sell a car privately, do you go by the Kelly Blue Book Value. We do, and I just had some guy tell me NOBODY uses that standard except in the "big city". So by show of votes, is he cray and just trying to get a steal on my car or is that true and NOBODY uses KBB?

Re: CPT:Blue book value

  • Here it's black book and we look at it but don't use it as our final guide. Black book is usually fairly close but market value changes with region too and Black book only takes province into consideration.

The blue book value on it is actually $700 more than we're selling it for so we're using as a guideline, I suppose.

  • In Canada we have a black book and a gold book (I'm in claims, I'm a nerd).  I would use the black book as a guide but I would also look at all sorts of other things; location, how many owners, highway or city driving, accidents, work done etc.

The black (or in your case blue) book gives an overall figure but you may have a car that's worth $5,000 more or $5,000 less depending on the above.

    Good luck!
  • I voted yes but, I would be looking at the KBB value for private sale using the best fitting condition category. If the condition was between two conditions I would split the difference. Also it might be good to keep in mind that you might think your car is a better condition than a potential buyer.
