starting solids and poop

Apologies if I am asking common questions. I quickly scrolled through a couple pages and didn't see this one.

DD will start solids soon and I am wondering what the routine will be like with her new poop. She's currently EBF, so I don't do anything with the poop, just throw it in the washer. So, my question is, the first time she has solids do I need to start rinsing? Or do I wait for the consistency to change? How long will it take before it becomes solid? I'm a FTM, so I don't know much about this phase!

Re: starting solids and poop

  • I waited till the consistency got to like peanut butter.  How long that takes, depends on how much she eats at first.  At lot of babes take a good month or more before the injest enought to change their poo.  My LO got enough pretty much right away.

  • PB poo, or when you actually see chunks of food (sorry, I know that's gross.)  The time will depend on how much they actually eat and what method you are using for solids.  I would think puree eaters would keep a softer consistency longer.  I did BLW, and LO's poos were solid within a matter of weeks.  She was a voracious eater.
