If hypothyroid, what's your most recent tsh level?

Mine was under 2 pre-pregnancy. I just had my blood drawn (6 weeks pregnant) and its over 5. My endo called and sounded worried and quickly bumped my meds to try and get it back down. I wish I'd had it tested sooner. I'm afraid to google but I know it can cause birth defects if tsh is too high.

Have you been getting checked? What was your most recent?

Re: If hypothyroid, what's your most recent tsh level?

  • mmm... 2.25 or 2.5. i think.  somewhere in that range.

that number earned me a significant increase from 125mcg to 150mcg daily dose by my endocrinologist.  i asked him why such a big jump and he said he knew my synthroid dependence would only keep increasing during pregnancy, and he wanted to stay proactive rather than reactive.  better to be slightly overmedicated for a short season than be walking around a bit hypo all the time.

my endo likes to keep me between 1 and 2 ideally.

at a 5, you'd definitely need a hearty dosage bump too!

  • I was a 1.3 right around conception. I'm getting blood work this Friday to recheck.
  • I just got diagnosed in May. It was 5.5. They put me on 50. I got retested 2 weeks ago and the results came back last week at 3.05. My RE has raised the prescription to 75.

  • before baby mine was at 1.23 but my doc was working on getting it lower as he prefers all his patients to be under 1 and no higher that 1.5 while pregnant. I'm at 4.6 this week. Another increase on dosage was called in. Take 1 tsp of coconut oil a day it helps thyroid function.

  • Also, I urge you to have more than just your TSH checked, as it is not a good indicator of overall thyroid health. your doctor should be doing a minimum of TSH, Free T4, Free T3, & Vitamin D regularly, especially while pregnant. and not to scare you but this link really drives home some of the risks. Its not something to be taken lightly. https://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/2012/11/28/hypothyroidism-pregnancy-dangerous/

  • I'm feeling the symptoms flare up and I want to recheck sooner than Friday so I don't have to wait until after the Labor Day holiday to get the results. I feel like a pincushion lately.

Me, too. I told the endo that since the obgyn is running bloodwork anyway, I would have them fax her the results so I don't have to get stuck more than necessary. She agreed to that.
