Constipation

To the extreme! What's safe to take?
I know the whole .. Eat fiber, drink water, exercise thing.. But that's not working and I'm soooo uncomfortable this morning can't button even my pants!

  • Miralax :) I asked my midwife and this is what she recommended. I was blocked for days, I really hope the poop comes soon because that is sooo uncomfortable! :)

  • Coffee! If I drink a cup of warm-hot coffee relatively fast, I'll go in about 20-30 minutes. Prune juice, if you can stand it. I actually don't mind it as long as it's ice-cold and cut down with water (it's too thick--bleh!). Those were my go-tos last pregnancy. Or eat Gerber's prunes? Never tried that one, but it works for DD! lol Um...Metamucil is probably fine, too.

  • I tried something last night that I got from another post from @speechie517.  I had this last night (added some agave to make it dessert-like) and the first thing I did this morning was "go".  It's supposed to have all these other health benefits too like help nausea, heart burn, etc...
    I swear by apple cider vinegar before bed. It keeps me regular and helps my skin (pre-pregnancy too) Mix 1 oz. with a few oz. water, dash of cinnamon, splash of vanilla, and ice. Yumm, almost like a cocktail!

    So glad it worked for you! I've been doing some reading about how it has helped others with heartburn and nausea as well.
  • a dried prune a day worked wonders for me! I found prune juice to be TOO effective.

    the prunes will relieve constipation once you have it, but I swear by an apple a day and a fiber one bar as a snack to KEEP it away

  • Exercise and eat kiwi! It really helped me and I learnt about it from this forum.

  • Miralax is what my doc recommended
  • Have you tried adding wheat bran to your cereal?  You have to start small - just a quarter cup, but once you get to eating larger amounts...Might be worth trying.
  • My doctor has me taking 3 Colace a day with my Zofran. It's not quite effective enough - I'm still struggling. I think I'll try that cider vinegar recipe!!

  • Watermelon does wonders for me, when nothing else has worked!
  • 1/2 prune 1/2 apple juice ... The apple helps the taste

  • My doc told me to take Magnesium Citrate.... OMG that stuff is horrible! But it did work. I didn't have a bowel movement for 5 days and after drinking a few sips of that awful stuff, I had one. But I think next time I will try something else. Doc also said to eat an apple everyday, and drink more water. And of course more fiber!
  • I forgot to ask the doctor about this so I didn't know Miralax was safe but that stuff is great! I went with metamucil and it seems to do the trick.
