(Some of) Our Boy Names

Since we decided on our girl name, we've been talking on and off and boys' names without making much headway. Thoughts on these?

Alfred Laurentius

Ambrose Larson

Atticus Larson

David Wayne (our dads' names; I like it but I'm a bit concerned about DH's stepdad and how he'd feel about it)

Lars Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald Lars

Larson Douglas (NN Lars)

Larson Wallace (NN Lars)

Alfred, David, Wayne, Larson/"Lars" and Douglas are all family names.

Fitzgerald would be after F. Scott Fitzgerald; Atticus would be after the character in To Kill a Mockingbird; Wallace would be after my favorite poet, Wallace Stevens.

Also I haven't tried to sell DH on it, but I'm all kinds of crushing on Llewellyn. How does it compare to the others?

Re: (Some of) Our Boy Names

  • Alfred Laurentius- don't love Alfred, but the nn Al is cute

Ambrose Larson- I like Ambrose a lot, but I think it needs a different mn

    Atticus Larson- like

David Wayne- seems vanilla compared to your other choices

    Lars Fitzgerald- I like

    Fitzgerald Lars- dislike

Larson Douglas (NN Lars)- my favorite

Larson Wallace (NN Lars)- don't like as much

I don't like the last one you posted- I don't even know how to pronounce it and it's very L heavy. Seems too much. What about Truman? I thought that was on your list? (It's my fav and we can't use it so I hope someone else will!)

  • There's something so appealing to me about Fitzgerald-- probably my JFK fascination.  Would you NN Fitz?  If yes, I think that would be my pick.

My second choice (close second) is Ambrose.  It's such a cool, interesting and underused name.  I actually mentioned it to H when I was pregnant with DD (before we knew she was a DD)  but he shot it down.  Sads.

Third place is Alfred.  I like it-- but not nearly as much as Ambrose or Fitzgerald.  Love Alfie as a NN.

I don't really like Larson/ Lars and although I DO like David-- your hesitaion is making me think it's not such a good idea to use that combo.  What about David Fitzgerald?

Truman is on our (well, mostly MY) list! I want DH to like it sooo badddlllyyy.

Larson Douglas was "the boy name" for DD2.

Alfred Laurentius is DH's pick. Alfred is my grandfather's name, but I feel weird using it because we've never been close and he's sort of a cold/distant person in general. I'm sure he'd feel honored, though. And I think Alfie and Freddie are the cutest NNs ever.

Llewellyn is pronounced like /loo-EHL-ehn/. It's a Welsh name I've been attached to it since No Country for Old Men, but it's certainly not as accessible as the others.

    I like this suggestion!

And I was thinking Fitz as the NN for Fitzgerald; Gerry would be...awful.

  • I really like Fitzgerald and Wallace, and David Wayne, for the family-name factor. Although, I think Fitzgerald or Wallace will fit better with your girls' names.

I like Larson with NN Lars - I think it's cool and different, without being too out there.

I've never heard the name Ambrose, but it has a very feminine quality to me- Maybe because of the "rose" ending?  Not really a fan.

Ambrose is a saint name. He was a contemporary of St. Monica and St. Augustine, so I've had some trepidation in using it just because we've also used Monica (using the name of her friend seems kind of dorky). I've always liked it because of Ambrose Bierce and The Devil's Dictionary.
