Hi ladies!  I'm not sure whether or not this is the right place for me.  I'm 31 and my DH is 36 and we were married in Sept 2011.  In November 2012, we decided to give up the BCPs and see what happens.  Since then, we have been pregnant 3 times which all resulted in losses.  The details are in my signature but I had a missed m/c at about 7 weeks and two c/ps at 5 weeks.  Since we had 3 losses in less than a year and my OB/GYN didn't seem concerned, we headed to an RE to hopefully find some answers.  We have completed all the testing so far except for the saline sono.  I already know I have a didelphic uterus but the RE doesn't think this is contributing to our losses.  All our results from the bloodwork and the karyotype appear normal except my DH has 1% morphology.  While we haven't met with the dr yet, our nurse thinks we will likely have to do IVF with ICSI due to the low morphology.  However, she said generally with low morphology you have trouble getting pregnant and our problem appears to be staying pregnant.

Are there any other ladies here with similar situations?  What did your dr recommend as the path forward?  We are meeting with the RE for a followup on 3 September but I would like to be prepared.  Our insurance doesn't cover IVF so we will be OOP so I'd like to be prepared mentally and financially if IVF is our only option.

Thanks ladies for reading this long post!

Re: Intro

  • It does surprise  me you are able to get pregnant naturally with 1% morphology.  My DH also has 1% and we went straight to IVF/ICSI/PICSI.  My first thought (and I am not an RE obviously) is that maybe the sperm that are getting you pregnant are irregular.  I have not done it but I know some ladies on this board have done DNA Fragmentation testing on sperm.  Maybe this could be something to ask your RE about?  GL I hope you get answers soon!

  • Hi there! We have very similar stories. We had 2 losses prior to seeing a RE. Then we found that DH had 1% morph and some varying..but still low motility. We did have the DNA fragmentation SA performed and all was fine with that. Bc of the fact that we did get pg twice and DH's count was OK...our RE suggested trying a couple IUIs. None of them worked, and we recently did IVF with ICSI. In the testing prior to IVF we did find a couple more dx with me that I have received interventions for during this IVF attempt...these things could have possibly contributed to the previous loss that we have suffered. Good luck with your appointment!

  • Our testing showed DH has severe MFI and low numbers all across with 0% morph. We were told our best bet would be IVF with ICSI because of that.  We didn't try IUI because we are 100% OOP and were told IUI likely wouldn't work in our situation.  Each IUI cycle alone not including cost of medications was 2,500

Financially, cost of 1 IVF cycle with ICSI was 13,000 + 2500 (ICSI).  Meds for 1 cycle I'm estimating 3-4,000.  Since our cycle didn't complete with a fresh transfer and I had to freeze (another 1,000 to cover 1 year storage fee) we had to pay 2,500 for the cost of a FET.

Seeing all those zeroes on the screen is making my eyes pop...
